Picking out a Sebenza 21 LARGE

It should be polished on the wood inlays.

Yep, called and confirmed. I would think CF or Micarta should be easier to come by...ebony is easy wood to get a hold of as well. I wonder why the CF and Micarta was all spoken for. No matter...like I said, if I can get a good grip with the ebony I'll be happy. I just know that wood can scratch....I bet it can be buffed or taken out, but that's another reason I was hoping for CF or Micarta.

The wood inlays are "stabilized", meaning infused with resin. They are very durable. The more you use the knife, the more you will like it. When it first arrives you will be tempted to keep it perfect, but like a new car, a first few painful dings and scratches are required to break into a phase of normal use of the tool.

I am such a perfectionist I need therapy. I do my VERY best to keep my finer things I have in life in the best condition possible. I usually carry 2-3 blades on me...not including the Leatherman Wave and the Karambit I often carry. I plan to use the Sebenza for light purposes...if I have to use something for more than that, I'll whip out my Spyderco Military or PM2. I know a bit a wear and tear ads character to the knife and all...but this is the most expensive EDC knife that I have owned. I have owned far more expensive knives, but I never carried them. This one, will most certianly be carried. I wonder if the clip can be ordered in black since all I wear are black jeans and pants. CRK said they don't offer it, so I might just send it out to have it cerekoted in black. We'll see!

One very important thing to note is CRK will re blast all plain TI and Micarta inlay knives back to like new free of charge. Anything with polished scales can't be done with free spa. So the wood inlay, ug, CGG, cf inlay etc
This may not matter to you anyway but it's worth noting. Im not a fan of the polished scales or blade as they get hairline scratches just looking at them. Having said that many love them...thank goodness we have choices!

Whatever you decide(d) you'll love it! Post up some pictures when it arrives!

You will soon own a truly beautiful knife (work of art?).

The ebony wood does not play second fiddle to micarta or carbon fiber IMO

Polished scales, polished blade and black inlays will pop! Idk if your variant has the gold colored thumb stud and hardware (was not a gold chain dude in the 80s).

Regardless nice knife, hope you post pics

Technically the Inkosi blade is Stone washed, but I know what you mean, it's a subtle stone-wash, that can appear satin.

Actually I was just talking about the scales. I missed the part about a polished blade. I like a stone washed blade just did not care for the bead blasted scales before I got the Inkosi.

SO BLADE HQ SCREWED ME!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I called 2X to confirm the knife (Large 21 with ebony inlays) was in stock. They said it was. A few hours past buy, and I never got anything in the email with a confirmation number or a tracking number. Called them and asked what was going on? They said all good…and sent me two copies of my order. Well…still no tracking number the following day. So, I log in to check on the status of my order. Upon doing so, it says something along the lines of "if you placed this order on line, there is a problem with your order and to please call customer service right away". Well…they had my number and THEY should have called. And lastly, after looking at the website, that particular model is now labeled as OUT OF STOCK. So, naturally….I figured they sold me a knife that they thought they had in stock. I was just very upset as how I was treated…I called to confirm 2 TIMES if the knife was in stock. And when I check on the status, there is a problem with my order.

At this point, I knew of ONE…just ONE other place that had this particular model in stock. So I called my bank, filed a dispute, got my temporary credit back….and ordered from "KnifeArt" for the same identical price. They were very nice and pleasant on the phone. Knife will ship today and should have it before the end of the week. I will never do business with BLADE HQ again. They could have called and told me…but nope. I HAD TO CALL THEM!!

Don't let it ruin your day...bladeHQ is a huge retailer and everyone makes mistakes. That knife comes up often and you've already found a replacement. Yes it was a hassle for sure but it'll all be worth it once your knife arrives.

It's just a pocket knife.

Also, Sebenza means worker in Zulu or whatever. Use the blade and you will be rewarded with a fantastic experience. I'm not sure Chris Reeve would endorse using a Spyderco Millie for tasks deemed to rough for his knife.

I think you'll find the Lg Sebenza more robust than the PM2. I get the idea of carrying different knives for different uses, but can't imagine many/any EDC tasks that can't be handled by your Sebenza AND the Leatherman Wave!?! IMO pocket space is too valuable to carry things I don't use and I get a lot of satisfaction from using my Sebenza. To each his own I guess. Enjoy your new sebbie!

I have a PM2 and Sebenza 21s. The Sebenza 21 blade has a more robust tip for certain. I am more worried about breaking the tip off my PM2 than any Sebbie I own. Don't get me wrong, the PM2 is great and deservedly legendary EDC, but one of the great things about the PM2 it is it's very thin and fine tip. The 21 blade is more stout.

You're right to worry, I broke the tip off my pm2 in month 3, and it didn't take much!

I have a PM2…only had it for a few months. It's also in S110V and yes, the steel is stronger than the S30V they come with standard….but boy oh boy is this thing sharp. I have to admit, I used to carry a Microtech SOCOM over a dozen years ago….I later switched over to a Military model. And till this day, I think the Military model is one of the best EDC knives one can possibly own. All you have to do is add a low riding clip…and you are set. I wear black jeans and pants…worn on my waist band and the belt over the clip. And it can't be seen.

ANYWAY…as I mentioned in my other thread, the other day was my birthday so I decided to pick up my long awaited Sebenza 21. I was going to pick up a large 25, but those I know who own both….told me not to make the mistake and order a 25 instead of a 21. I heard a few MINOR reasons why one should pick the 21 over the 25….did I make the right call? Well…the way I see it….I have never held a more perfectly crafted blade in my hand in my life. NEVER. This knife truly is the Rolls Royce of knives. I originally wanted to get it with carbon fiber inlays…but found out the scales would not be polished…so I went with the ebony inlays instead. And….I think I made a wise move. I have absolutely NOTHING negative to say about this knife. I mean….if I HAD to find something to whine about….I would say that I wish the clip rode a little higher so that I could conceal more of the knife. Other than that….I can't find ANYTHING else I would rather do to it (other than add another inch). Well….here she are my EDC tools, minus my Millie….

Oh I like the Sebenza 21....no doubt. Just trying to decide if I should just get the regular Ti scales, or the scales with the wood inlays. I won't be reselling it...I was just curious about that. And I always keep the box and papers. I did the math again, I'll have to pay about $65 for the wood inlays. Is it worth it??
I got my first plain Jane Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 with the stock stone washed blade, and I'm loving it. After a couple of weeks I put my order in for a Devon Thomas Basketweave Damascus blade which should be finished next Christmas. Wood inlays are nice. God knows I wanted a large ivory bark version, but the cost was prohibitive just to get into CR knives at the outset.
