I'm just too excited, I had to post! I'm moving up in the world! I bought a BF KM membership, 5 gallons of Parks 50, and a pyrometer/thermocouple. I quenched a blade of 15n20 the other day, and it seems like I can tell a difference in Parks vs Canola. The pyrometer verified my Mark 1 eyeballs in my homemade forge. But what really has me excited is this evening I'm supposed to meet a guy to buy a Skutt Glassmaster Kiln from an estate sale. The max temp is 1700, so I'll be limited to carbon steels, but I will be able to control my times and temps with much better precision. It has a 15" inside diameter, plenty big for what I do, and is 110V. While I would love to have a hotter kiln for stainless, I am super excited about this. And it's not the best design for knifemakers, but it will be light years ahead of my small homemade forge. I'll post pics when I get it, but for now, here is one from the website
