Picking your favorite pattern

Why does one need a nail file? Ya don’t is the answer if ya ask me. So, I’m not too enthusiastic about the cadet. Ha.

Ahhh yes
But if one could hunt down a cadet 2 which they replaced the file for a pen blade...

I have no idea why they discontinued that variation

I collect all patterns, mostly by manufacturer rather than pattern. For carry I prefer a 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" 2 blade jack with either a spear or clip master and a pen secondary. The two knives below make up about 99% of my knife carry. I also carry a Leatherman wave on my belt, but, mostly use the pliers and screw driver features.

I do also edc a skeletool
Likewise mostly for the pliers and screwdriver features

Wanted a cool companion for it

I work with my hands and am often splitting or tearing finger nails, so the file on a Cadet and other SAKs is a very useful tool. I always carry a Cadet at home, it's so light and unobtrusive in the pocket of my house shorts. My favorite pattern of SAK when out and about is the Evo Grip 14. I've been carrying one for about two years now, and there isn't a tool on it that I haven't used at one time or another.

I guess my disdain for the nail file might be due to my carrying of a leatherman. And being a carpenter, I have sandpaper handy most of the time. I digress,

For picking patterns, it’s a try a while and see proposition. I thought I’d love the swayback, especially how it’s played up on the forum. So I got one.

Happens at the same time I got the folding hunter pattern 6265. My first thoughts was that I’d not care for the 65 and it was just a try it out phase. I strapped it on, replacing my buck 110. And it rode there 6 months.

The swayback seen watch pocket carry a couple times and I just couldn’t warm up to it. Sure it was nice. But, well someone liked it better so I sent it on.

I've been more focused on how I carry more that what. Meaning I found out that I really don't like stuff in the bottom of my pocket. I've been almost exclusively carrying my traditionals on my belt. I have quite a few sheaths and that's been a deciding factor. Sometimes a small knife in a small sheath is odd, but it works. The first time I carried a Buck 501 in the actual sheath was weird...had me wondering why that was even a thing, but I got used to it....

I was getting interested in pocket knives again after a hiatus of a few years and started looking at different single blade patterns because I have almost always had a SAK in my left front pocket. I got an inexpensive one arm razor I can open with gloves on and with one hand and that has been my favorite pattern since. I have some stockmans but those are redundant with the SAK, everybody loves a good barlow, etc.

But when it is 20 F outside and I need to pop the bailing twine off of a bale of grass or open a feed bag for the horse the one arm razor in my watch pocket is my best friend.

Cheers,
