Pics - CA Plaza Custom Knife Show

Zippo & Gundude,
What is your honest opinion on the 2011 annual? Is it tacky or does the gold and silver look gaudy and out of place?

First show and was really fun. I wish i could have bought all the customs i wanted, and the CRK table. I was torn between the Pacific, Nyala and Professional Soldier. But since i have a mid-range knife, i figured the P.S. would be a great neck knife to take out. And i think it was -gundude- that was wondering how i typed my user name, or the other guy(sorry, i forgot your name), but you can see my keyboard has the asian lettering, but also, the fonts are already in MS, you just have to install them :P Besides the coaster, i picked up the black leather pouch, and a couple cord ties.

The large was sold by the time I got to the table, so I don't know that price, the small was $630

I am a shy person actually, next time I'll muster up the courage. :)

Ahhhhh, so that was you next to us then. Did you see the two asian guys next to you while Nathan was getting his pic taken? :P

It was really nice meeting everyone, maybe we can do a get together in between the next one.

i think it looks good. the gold and silver arent very obnoxious. and the brushed wood looks great. i think anyone into sebenzas would enjoy it.

here is a macro video Nathan did on it

dont' like the inlay, too much IMO
doesn't look good, the gold stud and tube are fine but the dots I don't like them
price is risen (I belive) due to them so it's harder to get

the wenge doesn't look good, prefer some 2009 and 2010 I've seen
hoped to get it, may look for an older one

Yup. I am jealous... I wanted to go, but the 22 hour drive was a big turn off... (I am in Vancouver BC)

I actually like the looks of the new annual. It is definitely far out of my price range, but I like the different approach of adding precious metals as well as the *brushed* wood. There seems to be a bit more work into it then previous annuals. Although the wood isn't glossy and filled with burl I like the earthy tones and the placement of the metals. Nothing like actual precious metals to sweeten the deal on your pocket jewelry!

Of course, all things considered it is still a CRK and fits all the standards we've grown to expect.

What was the price?

What was the price?

The small was $630 I believe.

The large had already been purchased prior to my video and picture taking.
Given the price of the small I'd have to imagine the Large being near or over $700.

Which isn't overly expensive for the nature of an Annual as well as the added precious metals, but it is too much for me to want to spend on a knife I don't have the moxie to use. lol

Chris was a gentleman. Two notes: If one was to order a damascus Insingo, he supposed that they would make it! Also I was very underwhelmed by the LE that I saw. Felt the (only) wood selection was way below their past offering(s), and several have passed thru my collection.

Your milage may vary.

Also another attendee brought him one of his walking sticks to sign, it was very nice (bamboo shaft, titanium ball)

that bamboo had come from Chris' yard if i heard correctly, i was trying to listen in on the conversation :P
