Excellant pics bro! Looks like the memorial was very well attended. I plan to go next year. Thanks for the reminder to everyone!!!

Great pics MORIMOTOM! Thanks for sharing. Many thanks to those who serve to protect us, both in the military and law enforcement.

It was good to see that smile on your face ... and that blonde on your arm. :D;)

I'm glad your visit to the Nation's Capitol was so memorable.

Now ... go beat that INFI like the proverbial red-headed step-child!

Awesome pics and a great tribute to our men and women of law enforcement.

Thanks for sharing man!

thx everyone. it was a great trip, i hope to go again in 2010.

steve, it is actually the army honor guard at the tomb of unknown soldiers. but they are indeed disciplined. as i understand, they are posted 24/7. they dont itch, twitch, sneeze, look sideways, or otherwise conduct any movement not within their routine.

and yes, that blonde is something special.

I have actually regained some of my respect for LEOs through my dealings and conversations on BF. Thank you for your service and for helping me be a little more open-minded again.

Mark, Awesome photos. Thanks for sharing and Congrats on a trip well traveled.

Thank You Bro

Oops! It is the Army. I stand corrected, thanks M.

BTW, if anyone comes to D.C. during the summer, you can see the USMC Silent Drill Platoon (shown in the terrific pictures, above) in the Sunset Parade every Tuesday evening during the summer, in front of the Iwo Jima Memorial. It's free and unforgettable. It's also easy to get to: a five minute walk from the Rosslyn Metro station (eight minutes with kids in tow) and a five minute walk from my apartment. :D

good to know. aside from why we made the trip, the changing of the guard and the usmc silent drill platoon are well worth the journey.

what i find particularly interesting is the different styles of enforcement i have encountered across the country.

we typically assume that because something is done one way as we have experienced, it is done generally the same way everywhere else. not true. in california, for the most part, agencies are service oriented. that is, a large portion of energy is spent on public relations and "appeasing" people.

in the midwest, it is more enforcement oriented. service is of course provided, but enforcement is the primary concern. oddly, in these areas, people dont generally go out of thier way to sue their local agencies. it appears to me they accept the role of police and bend when necessary.

even though ca agencies lean more toward service, lawsuits are rampant. agency brass are constantly revising policy with liability as their only concern, and it is not uncommon to throw individuals under the bus, so to speak. eventually we will policy ourselves right in to a corner.

give an inch, they take a mile, i suppose.

Awww I WORK for the Archives(IT)....I wish I would have known I could have swung out and said hey. Thanks for the pics, I guess I take it for granted that I have all this stuff close to me.
