Those freshwater drum are a pest here. Fishing in Lake Erie they give a great fight, and you ALWAYS think you have a big catfish, then get a drum. Almost everyone I know hates them things. (I do know some people who actually eat them though. Call them poor mans shrimp :barf: )

And I just learned something. I didn't know there were freshwater drum. We have Red and Black saltwater drum down here. Got this one a few weeks back.

They are very good eating. And what we call sheephead looks like a black drum, but have teeth that look almost human. A buddy of mine calls them "Mr. Chompies." I'll get a pic next time we catch one, really is funny looking.
 
Thanks bro. You and me both. I wonder why this fish isnt in the conservation fishing booklet. Some say its great to eat, some say its not. I dunno. I got alot of meat off it to try out for myself. I dont have a very delicate pallet, so I imagine Ill like it just fine.

Do you soak your meat ala Catfish before cooking?

Ive ate drum a few times. Sometimes it was very good and made a nice sandwich. Other times it was terrible.
