Well today was the first day of school for my sons. My wife had to work, and I was off with nothing to do. So, I decided to hit the river valley for some woods time, and some fishin. I loaded up the pack, grabbed an MRE, and was off!!

This is a great place that is not very well traveled. No trails, just straight up bushwhackin. Ive been hittin this area up for the past 5 years now, and am gettin to know it pretty well. The terrain is steep in some places, and the brush and grass is pretty thick so a carefull step is a must. Todays weather was awesome. Temps in the 80s, and nice and cool in the shade. Last night was down in the middle 50s, so most of the morning was nice and cool.

On to the pics. Theres a ton of em, so hang in there....

My pack for the day. The Snugpak Sleeka. I love this thing. Have had it awhile, and at first I hated the waistbelt on it. So I removed it, and now it is one of my favorite packs.

Hang in there....Many more to come....

Decided to hang the Hammock. for a nap later. Its a Hennesey Expidetion. I love it. Its not the usual bottom entry Hennesey, its one of the newer side zip models. Very well made, and the zippers are very beefy. I didnt put the fly on it, cause I was gonna use it for a ground sheet to sit on while I ate etc...

Did some firecraft ala the one stick fire. Used the axe to chop of a piece of Elm I believe. Then used it to chop it down a bit so I could use my knife for the rest of the prep work. I didnt make much fuel, cause this was more of a skill drill then wanting a fire. Its pretty damp out here, but I got her done. I cant say enough about the Bravo 1 from Bark River. I love this thing, its my go to blade. I finally nutted up and removed the thumbramp, and I love it even more now.

Main compartment contents. Altoids sized tin, Sharpening stone, and space blanket, and glow in the dark whistle.

Tin contains the following. Saw, glue stick, unlubed condom for a water container, water tabs, card wrapped with duct tape, two sewing bobbins with snare wire and spyderwire fishing line. Some cordage, safety pins, and streamlight nanolight. In the orange tape is some hooks, sewing needles, sinkers, and a couple swivels.

The only thing missin is my PSK knife from Iz that I hope to have soon.

Thats all folks. I hope you enjoyed my thread.

Cheers

Well.. I was hungry.. but.. you made it go away. Thanks  :p

Nice little kit ya got there.. Long time since I have had a nap outside in mid-day. Would have been a great day for it, too.

Jake - thanks for the pics :)

What Condor pouch? Looks like a very nice size for a PSK- like the fact it has two compartments. Somewhat similar to the Maxped Anemone

thanks

Mike

mtwarden, thanks brother.

The pouch is called the i-pouch. I got it at a local surplus store for 7 bucks new. They are a dealer....

Its awesome. Perfect size for a PSK. I had to dig through my space blankets to find one folded right that would fit. The main compartment has two interior pockets that are just big enough for the Falkniven stone. Im gonna stick a PSK knife in the other one. Its great, the quality is just as good as Tac Tailor, Maxpedition, etc... At a fraction of the price. Ive started trying alot of the nylon gear from other cheaper manufacturers and while some is crap, Condor is dang good. So is Voodoo Tactical IMO.

Im gonna pick up another one for my camera next time im up that way if you want me to grab one for ya.

danke :)

looks like it's actually closer to the Barnacle (both 1.5" in thickness)- I've got a Barnacle, but I definitely paid more than $7 for it :(

Excellent post.

I love the Hennessey. I see it has the side tie downs. I did not know they were making a side entry.

I love the BR. I could not figure out what model that was until I read your post. I love it w/o the thumbramp. The TR gets in my way since I like to move up on the handle with my thumb alongside the back of the blade.

Now for the important question... did you catch any fish? :D

Its a really nice setup. Looks like a great day off.

jwilliams thanks for the party. i was amazed at the thorns on the honey locust , i do'nt think we have these in texas. thos little lights are great i give them to my good customers.

Yeah, for 7 bucks its a deal

awesome pics Jake... nice layout of gear too..

Thanks Mike! I cant wait to get that sheath for the Bravo. The kydex it comes with is utter crap.

Yeah, I love the side entry. If they werent making one I wouldnt have went with a Hennesey. Not a fan of the bottom entry.

My thoughts exactly on the ramp.

Ha! I didnt get much fishin in since I fell asleep in my Hammock for an hour. I did wet a line, but had no luck. Perhaps if I had more time. :o

Yeah, the Nano is a great lil light. That ones a few years old. I really like em. Honey locust is neat. The thorns dont take a spark well, but are a great extender. They burn for a nice amount of time. Also make good fish hooks.

Awesome pics Jake, that looks like a beautiful area! man you are going to be well set for tinder and firecrafting materials this Autumn. I like the looks of that little pouch a lot. And yes dessert is always the best part of an MRE :)
