Hi,

Thought I'd post some pics of this weekend's canoe trip in Ontario.

This was the small bay that we camped in:

Here's our campsite:

These were the knives that I brought to work with and try out; the one on the right is a Daniel Winkler custom with a sheephorn handle and a damascus blade, and the far left is a Fallkniven F1 with a custom handle by Bark River Knives:

This is my wife's knife (Busse Bony Active Duty):

Here's my new Kifaru G2 XRay pack... it's extremely comfortable:

Beautiful area. I also like the Winkler. What modular units are strapped on your new pack?

Since I recently got a new canoe and won't get to use it for a while, I'm loving the pics from others trips.
Very cool. Looks like the weather was perfect too.
Oh yeah, that Winkler is just too cool!

Where were you, Walkabout?

I see the bear spray is readily available - any problems?

Doc

Hi Doc,

We were on Stewart Lake (Upper and Lower). It's about 70 km east of Kenora, just off of Hwy 1. No problems with the bears, though we did see a good-sized black bear from the comfort of our vehicle on the way home. There are widespread blueberry patches, which may result in a bit more bear concerns later in the summer. We go to this place often, and it's not unusual to see fresh bear tracks and/or scat.

Hi,

Thanks! :)

Our whole family loves canoeing. We've never been on a vacation to a resort, but every year we go canoeing into the bush. Here are our canoes... both from Souris River Canoes in Manitoba (where I live). The partially-hidden green one is a 17 foot fiberglass model, and the yellow one in the foreground is a 16 ft kevlar (I'm getting too old to lift the heavy ones :) )

Very nice. I had a 15ft fiberglass canoe I used a lot until it was stolen. I recently traded for a 17ft Alumacraft that I am really anxious to try out. I live on a river but I'm rarely home.
I hope to be home for Salmon season this year though.

Hey Walkabout, Thanks for the reply. I've never been to the Kenora area, but it looks like a beautiful area.

I have a Optical Hardcase from Tactical Tailor that I keep the binoculars in.

On the waistbelt, I have a couple of Kidaru stash-its (one on each side), where I keep my GPS and small digital camera. I also use a GPS/Phone pouch for the bear spray, which fits perfectly. I use a Maxpedition RollyPoly for a water bottle (that's the ACU pouch in the pic).

On the pack I have an Organizer and a mini long-pocket (where I keep my raingear), and a Baby Utili-Shingle Pocket from Emdom (it's the darker green small pouch below the hardcase).

Absolutely spectacular! Yeah, I like it... Wish I was there now. Tell me you caught some good feesh in those waters..go ahead...rub it in!

Nice to see another 'Toban on the Forum. Yes, that is a pretty area, Stewart Lake. I used to guide at Hawk Lake, not as far from Kenora, but same general area. Where did you pick that pack up? Local or on-line?

Hi,

I ordered from Kifaru online... I think that's the only way to get them new. The most challenging part for me is trying to figure out the various modular pouches that you might need; I ended up ordering more than I used, though I will likely vary the configuration with time.

Man, that looks like a great place to spend some time. I especially like the first picture. It reminds me of the canoeing trips that I used to do in the Adirondacks.
