Nice find olybears! Hard to tell but it looks like ironwood burl maybe.

Spyderco Native with tan and white crazytek:

Desert tan G10 w/earth brown G10 inlaid Punisher half skull. Black CA glue used to get that pencil line accent surrounding the inlay. Diamond checkered texture...

Awesome.

I'm still sitting here trying to figure out how I'd make an inlay with a scroll saw and my meager skills... :foot::rolleyes::D

THIS.
Was it tough carving out the inside of the scale for the liners? I'm thinking about trying to make some for my Rock Lobster out of walnut...
Actually, the inlay for the nested liners of a Rock Lobster is pretty extensive.
Walnut or wood of any kind would not be my recommendation.
There are many thin areas with delicate cuts that would not fair well when using wood as a medium (especially with this knife).
Other more durable materials like G10, micarta, kirinite or Shokewood would be better suited for the task.
Don't get me wrong, I love wood.
However, wood and nested liners......do not like each other.
Especially on an inlay such as this one.

WIP, sort of...;):D

Looking at building another set of full sized "crater scales" for a first gen (bottom knife) Gayle Bradley. As in, ones that cover the liners completely like the orange ones above.

I've had this material for a while now.
But, I have had no time to use it! I made these today.
Can you see the texture on these?
It feels like felt! It's hard to get a lot of the detail to show in the pics with this light.

What material is that Keyman?

Hey all.

So I'm not nearly as skilled as you guys but I wanted to try my hand at a couple things.
I've been wanting to reduce the size of my Spyderco Resilience and see if I could successfully make a different blade shape so I gave that a shot. Also chopped the liners and scales and ground in a glass breaker point.

Next up I'm working on a pair of wood handles for my Rock Lobster. Something with a bit of a finger guard but also tried to leave a little of Anso's style towards the back of the grip.

That is Desert Raindrop Damagrip.
Knifekits used to carry it.
However, they have not had any in stock for over 2 years now.
If you find another source for this stuff, please let me know.
I have had dozens of requests.

Very nice 12thMan.
It looks like you went a little thicker on the scales to add a bit of durability....that's a good idea.
However, the counter bores will all need to be a bit deeper too.
That is, if you're going to use the original hardware.
Any cracking or splitting will occur when tightening the screws down or when in use.
Good luck, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
It's always very disappointing to do all that work and have them come out really nice.
Only to have the scale break/split in the first few days of carrying it. :(

Yep.
Those wood scales there are version two. A tiny bit thicker than my first try at this. For the first version I routed out the holes a bit wider for some little stainless washers. Probably wouldn't pass muster for a lot of guys here in the forums but I like the industrial look, heh.

I'm just doing these for me and I don't intend to hard-use the Rock Lobster so I think I'll be fine. Time will tell though ;)
It's only my second attempt and I have a lot to learn to be sure.
