The liberal-conservative discussion is interesting one but also confusing to many people. The terms have many meanings in many different circles.
At this point in time, they are becoming meaningless...quickly.
Sometimes the liberals want more control (in the U.S. in economic situations..taxes) sometimes the liberals want more freedom (abortion..freedom to chose).
What we now refer to as "liberals" have always put forth the idea that abortion is all about a personal choice. I'm not going to get into that debate as I am a true moderate on that particular issue which means both extremes despise my opinion, but it is interesting to note that liberals are all about "choice" until it comes time to defend yourself in your car or outside of the ATM, then all of the passionate rhetoric about "choice" goes right down the toilet.
Sometimes conservatives want freedom (I want my children to goto fancy pants school so give me a tax credit. Other times conservatives want control ( over what or who is allowed to do what drug)
An interesting topic.

Just this morning, I awoke to Ben Stein on
Sunday Morning talking about the need for eliminating the easy availability of firearms in this country after the Virginia Tech murders. Ben Stein is a conservative, so the descriptors fly, anyway... However, like many people that pass themselves off as conservatives, they are simply liberals who want to keep their money.
Or...we could just say that what we have here is a problem with control freaks and that both sides of the political spectrum have control freaks and they tend to gravitate towards the positions of power and influence throughout history and this portion of the epic is no different.
All of the major, conservative mouthpieces out there are placing Guiliani and McCain as the republican frontrunners for the 2008 Presidential race, they're both anti-gun, they're both anti-
choice when it comes to self-defense while being pro-choice in other areas of personal life and decision making.
The democrats, on the other hand, control congress and have Obama and Clinton running and who knows what other disturbing candidates they will come up with.
So, when the republicans are putting up these two people and basically ignoring or sabotaging the runs of other people, what does that tell you about the future of firearms ownership in this country? It doesn't really look too good, does it?
What difference does it really make when it comes to "conservative" or "liberal" any more? The libertarian and Constitutional Parties are never going to win and I can't say that this saddens me either, especially when it comes to the Constitution Party which is a really wacky unit.
The United States has been relatively free for a long time, I think that time is about to expire for real. Oh, it won't be too terrible I guess, for the generation after us, they won't have anything to compare it to. For us it will be quite the shock as we grow old and see the rights disappear more and more every year.
