Pics of Most of My Blades

The Fiskars looks remarkably like my Gerber axe/hatchet. Both the head and the handle, especially the finish on the head, the way it attaches and the flare at the bottom of the handle with the hole.

Am I the only one that doesn't know that one make the axes for the other or is this just a coincidence?

They are the same. Fiskars now owns Gerber. The Fiskars axe/hatchet is sold in the Garden section of Walmart. The Gerber is found inthe Sporting Goods department :D :p . Its just a marketing thing.

Thanks Rupestris. Didn't know that.

Also the collection looks pretty good SpookyPistolero. I apparently have some of the same pieces and didn't know it. ;) :D

I had one of the winchester knives a while ago. It actually wasn't too bad of a knife, true the steel wasnt the best, but it held up very well.

Great pics...looks like you have all angles covered there !
How does the Fiskars Axe perform ?

Thanks much folks!

Pit man, the Fiskars has performed very well for me thus far. I have been bogged down with school, but have been able to play with it just a little. It worked very well at even fine tasks such as making fuzz sticks, but did great in chopping larger wood for fires or small shelters (all backyard type stuff). It will absolutely be coming along when I backpacking next. It's a really handy hatchet, which is saying a lot from me.

the possum, I know what you mean! Some of them don't have nearly the character that I've come to know and love in most of my gear. Luckily, a couple of these are brand new and begging to get some love marks. The pipe is one of my fav's, just a basket piece. I've got a nice B&M around here that sells a lovely little cavendish blend that I'm a bit obsessed with. The pipe is also a bit new (~8 months) and frequently takes a back seat to my corncobs. For the life of my I can't understand why my cobs smoke even better than my WELL broken in meerschaum or any of my briars! Cobs are the Moras of the pipe world.

I've gotta go keep playing with my leather now. I just found out there is a leather store in town, so I bought some tools and scrap leather from him and am about to start making my very own sheath for my Mora 510. I'm really excited, and already learning from lots of mistakes. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Spooky, yes I thought that was the Winchester knife I had seen at walmart. Just wanted to see how it held up. It has a nice look to it.

Also, what is your favorite Mora?

Hi Groovy! At first it was a toss up as to my favorite of the Moras that I have, mostly between the Triflex Craftsman (the black handled one) and the 510 (red handled). The Triflex has a heftier blade to it, but I just enjoy handling the 510 more and find myself reaching for it most often for general cutting tasks. I'd hugely recommend it. The next Mora I'd like to try is just the simple wood handled S-1. Looks like a slightly classier version of what I've already got.

Take care!
