The mailman just dropped off my Blade-Tech Pro-hunter Lite. Here are some quick pics. The one with the tail is the G-10 version for comparison. The Lite has all screw construction. I was also surprised to see dual liners.

Here are the specs (taken from www.blade-tech.com):

Wegner Professional Hunter-Lite

# Blade Steel 440C (Hollow Ground)
# Blade Length 3 1/2"
# Blade Thickness 1/8"
# Overall Closed Length 4 1/2"
# Overall Open Length 8"
# Blade-Tech V- Hole
# Ambidextrous tip-up pocket clip
# Back Lock Construction
# Weight 4.0 oz.
# FRN " Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon" Handle Slabs molded with the same texture as our G-10 model.
# Choice of Plain edge or 25/75 Combo edge

I got two of them. One locks up with no play at all. If you grab the tip of the other one and give it a good tug you can feel a little give, but you cant see it. I tightened the pivot a tad and this went away. Both of these now have no play at all. Pretty good considering most lockbaks have a little. They are a little stiffer to open than the g-10 version, but the g-10 version is a linerlock and these are lockbacks so it is to be expected. They open up with a solid sounding "thwack".

They have those typically excellent Wegner design ergonomics. I know its a personal thing, but I have yet to find a knife that fits my hand so well. The Lites are a tad thicker than the g-10 version.

All in all I think these are an excellent value for $60.

*edited to add that these are made in Seki City, Japan.

Here are two pics that Dexter Ewing took of the orange handled version. His pics are much better than mine.

I can't wait for mine to arrive. I don't think I've ever had an FRN handled knife that had liners, how does it "feel" in the hand?

It feels much more solid than the typical, no liner FRN folder.

Has the same handle material as the Mouse Lite I am assuming? I like the feel of the Mouse Lite handles........

Thanks for the review and photos, I should be getting mine in the mail tomorrow or the next day. I plan on zip tying mine so it can be "waved" open from the pocket.

Thanks for the picture.
Great looking knives too!

I especially like the orange one (I'm a sucker for colored knives).

The blade shape is similar to my Spyderco Centofante III (also made in Seki City).
But I really like the integrated guard and choil.

Thanks again,
Allen.

Thanks for the pics - its so rare getting a topside and downside shot - or even a clip side shot. Especially when there's never a chance I'll be able to handle one before buying.

Definitely on the list...

Got mine today... Good size and great feel. I added a lanyard, "reeve style", and a zip tie. It "waves" out of my pocket better than either of my actual waved Emerson's (sorry Ernie). I am finding I like my mid priced knives better than more expensive ones. No Fear of breaking or losing it...

Just ordered one, first tactical I've purchased in quite a while.

I've always like the Wegner design and owned several including 2 from Phil B, but the fact that they came out with one in a lock back rocks.

This puppy is ripe for being customized, mine will be fitted with some G-10 or Micarta shortly after arrival!

I knew that someone would take advantage of the all screw construction. I would love to have one with some nice wood scales.

Just got mine, I'm really impressed for the money!

Action is a little rough but will break in, lock-up was dead-nuts tight with zero play. 440c and a lock back, what more is there to say.

Suprisingly the Zytel scales do not feel bad at all and are hard to tell from regular textured G-10 at first glance.

This is clearly made by the same folks that do Spyderco, Cold Steel, AG Russell and some of the other well made Japanese imports.

A+ Bladetech :D

Just rec. mine in the mail and I agree with everything that has been said and then some. Great value for the money spent. Just wish they would make it with a 4" blade. Couldn't be that much more money or take that much more effort. keepem sharp

Tried to fix that little gap today so removed the scale on the right side of the knife. The pivot side. I have to tell ya the inards of the knife look very well done indeed. Everything done very well with no burrs or anything of the sort. Well then I looked at the bushings and they are in a word, laughable. I mean they look ultra light thin pieces of film. Can't belive they would even put them in the knife. I know they won't last long. I tried removing one and it almost folded over on itself. Almost left them out for what good they do, but didn't. Just bumms me out they would make a pretty decent lock back and then put those washers in it. Go figure. keepem sharp

Don't worry, they'll last a long, long time.

Almost every made in Japan, Non-FRN Spyderco uses the exact same washer. (Maybe the FRN ones use them too, never had one apart) Same with the other companies who use the same plant.

I felt the same way years ago when I took apart my first Chinook, but having used knives that have this washer for years I have full confidence in them.

If you look at Japan made a knife that is a steel blade on steel liners and you can't see a pivot, it probably has those washers :D

I have the same type of washers in my Spyderco Military, and have had no problems with them at all. In fact, I can't even see any wear on them.

Dennis,

The Lite version's blade doesn't seem as pointy. Is that a trick of the light, or is that how it's made?

The lite I have is very pointy. More so than the BM 555 I used to have. I will say that the words on the washers have bolstered my confidence in them. The knife opens and closes with a nice loud clack. Everything is made to fit very well. Still think it is a good bargain. keepem sharp

It does seem to be a little more dropped than the standard version.
