Has anyone reprofiled their edges to a mirror finish? Please show pictures if you have them - please include what the inclusive edge is now and what stone/s and strops you used to attain them. :)

I've been thinking about thinning my 3.5" flipper down a bit since I cut into the corner of a plain ol 2x4 yesterday and the blade kept slding off the edge.

Once or twice it did bite in but it hurt my hand to cut off a decent sliver, funny thing is - it'll slice copy paper like a banshee.

:D I did'nt polish it to much, but the thing is like a laser. 18deg each side.

That sounds good for a hard use knife. 18* is an odd setting, sounds like a DMT aligner maybe? Nice looking scale btw. :D

Thanks the scale is what Rick calls Battleship Grey.

You're welcome it's nice! :) What's that sharpener called atony? I like sharpening systems - how about giving me the lowdown? I'm sure I've seen it but can't put a name to it.

You have some serious cash in the system with all the stones. I've put a system in their cart several times but when I see the total I cant pull the trigger. Is it worth it? Are you going to be at the feb knife class?

What grit are the white ones? I bet the yellow ones in the bag with the diamond paste are mini-strops too? That is a "wicked" looking system!

The ones in the bag are strops, and very handy.

I think the grey and white ones are 1200/1600 grit. Can't remember off of the top of my head.

I usually only take blades to 1k and leave them at that. I did do a Caly3.5 and took it all the way even the strops, and 15* per side. It it by far the sharpest knife I have had.

I think it is worth it, very easy to set up and get great results. It may be a bit pricy but the ease of use is worth it to me.

I have'nt heard of the feb knife class. When, where what.

I'll do mine on my Work Sharp as soon as I get it back this Monday. I probably won't change the angle, just give it a good mirror polish and that's it.

No name. Bought it cheap from ebay. Looks similar to Apex, but I do not have one to compare with. The hones which it came with were no good and I had to do some mods and custom fitting for it to be able to accept the DMT hones. It works well now.

I don't trust "myself" with belt driven sharpeners.

1. What's this knife class I'm reading about? BTW, Gress that's a dead ringer for and Apex. Had me fooled.

2. What changes exactly did you make to accomodate the DMT hones if you don't mind. I'd buy one if evilbay has a vendor selling them on the cheap. Got any pics of results?

3.. MORE PICTURES only one pic and all of these sharpeners?? :D :D

Can you guys take a video of how you sharpen your XM-18 and post it on youtube? I'd be one of the interested forumites to see it for sure. Thanks!

My camera skills suck(with a new camera too), but it's very nicely mirror finished, cuts through paper like it was empty air, and pops the hair off my legs:thumbup:.

Great setup atony!
This is how I do my sharpening :)

I don't think that it is an edge pro, there are little things that are not right about it, and I did a quick search on the bay and I think I found that exact sharpener shipping straight out of china.
