Pics of your sharpest edges.

I won't say this is the sharpest knife in the drawer. It's a Spyderco factory edge, so it's plenty sharp. What you can see here is the so-called Spyderedge which is unpolished creating what some call "micro-serrations."

What it really is is an example of taking a very macro picture of a knife edge. In this case, I upped the photographic challenge and also the interest by adding a mirror so you can see the other side of the blade.

My webcam was able to get more magnification than my flatbed scanner at 1200dpi. I need to get me a higher res flat bed scanner. :) Or a high res digital camera with a good close up adaptor.

Anyway, this picture makes it easy to see the 20 degree micro-bevel and the 15 degree back bevel.

For reference, below is the whole image I scanned, but sized way down, and I highlighted the area I cropped out from the full resolution image.

WOW! This is crazy. I managed to focus my webcam through my 100x pocket microscope. I think this image is over 100x as it's much more magnified than if I look through the micropscope and more detailed! I'm going to have to play around with the lighting, find a way to clamp the knife, etc so I can get even better images. The edge itself, which is along the bottom right corner of the image, is hard to see because of the lighting, but you're pretty much looking at the microbevel and nothing else. This is the final angle that makes the edge in the above pictures. It is barely visable to the naked eye, you only really see a hair line glimmer at the end of the knife, but in the below picture it looks very wide which is amazing. The whole surface area of the edge you are seeing is probably less than 1mm. Beat that Gollnick! :)

LOL, what an idea. Point a camera down a microscope. Great pics and edges you guys. My knives feel all dull and sad after seeing this.
