Howdy folks-

I just took a small plunge and ordered a Condor 12" carbon bolo, and their 14" Golok. Very exciting! I wanted the Hudson Bay too, but decided these two were enough steel for now.

Anywho, I'd love to see some in-use / woods pics of either of the above (or similar Condor long blades) to whet my appetite while I await their arrival!!! Whatcha got??

Dont have those, but heres a pic of some...

My 18in Stainless El Salvidor, passaround Parang, and my 14in carbon El Salvidor. Dude you owe it to yourself to get a 14in Carbon ES...Its my absolute favorite ever!

Man, they have a 12 inch bolo now??? Where's the 12 inch El Salvador? I've been waiting for one for six months... wood handled El Salvadors as well...

I own neither of those, but I do have these as a bit o' Condor eye candy! :D

I also have (and have beaten the snot out of) the Kumunga but haven't had the chance to get pics yet. :D

42blades???
I have ZERO need for one...but man, I kinda want one of those sabers...what do you think of it?
Sorry for the hijack guys!!!!

Edit. Oh..just to throw a match on the pile of hay in the last pick. I went out for an overnighter a few weeks ago. I had major chip outs in my Condor Golok edge.
I think its from a spruce knot...but who knows..it just adds patina. just an FYI.
I dont want to pick on condor, but I think this is the last one for me...other than the Saber, that is.

Good stuff guys, thanks!

Jake- That 14" ES is rad! If I'd seen it before placing my order I'd have added one to the bunch. Looks like a winner.

It is awesome Will. I love the blade profile of it, and its a bit thicker then the stainless one. Sturdy!!!! Have a nice custom leather sheath for it too. Condors are addictive! Got mine from goingear....

I love the Bush Cutlass. Great when blazing a trail through brambles and grasses. It bounces right off of anything thicker than an inch, but it wasn't made for that--its forte is lush vegetation.

If you're having chipping issues send Rick Jones as Condor an email. I've never had one chip and I beat them the hell up. I'm sure he'll fix it right up for ya'.

I don't understand why the Condor machetes are so thick...I like my machetes with a little flex to them, and according to what I've read, they are twice as thick as Tramontinas...

IS the issue the grind on the bush cutlass?

Nope! It's the fact that it's thin, narrow, and ultra light. This is an advantage when cutting green, flexible foliage because it allows you to get enough tip velocity to cut the material before inertia allows it to move out of the way. The Bush Cutlass is a terror on those targets, it just lacks the mass for taking out heavy stuff. Below is an example of what it can do. Note the straight line between the two leaves. :D

Only some of the line is, and almost all of Condors machetes have some nice degree of flexibility. Many pieces in the lineup are quite thin, such as the above mentioned Bush Cutlass. See also the Viking, Swamp Master, and Puerto Rican models, as well as the Jungle Saber, Hog Sticker, and Outback. Perhaps you're just looking at the wrong ones. ;)

I'm at the factory in El Salvador right now. I might be able to pick up a replacement for your golok tomorrow if you can send me pictures.
SPRUCE WILL CHIP ANY KNIFE OR AXE. Check out page 93 in Volume 2 of Kephart where he talks about spruce and hemlock chipping axes out like they were made of glass. If there are any issues, send me the people's info. Period.
Yeah, Ive heard they chip a bit.
Have you had any of yours chip?

You should try the $12 eco survivor by them. Extremely thin like a latin machete. I don't like thick machetes either.

In fact, it's the same blade that the ESEE Lite Machete uses--and a fraction of the price! Sure it doesn't have the fancy micarta handle, but I'm fine with that. :D

Nope, not at all. I never noticed it with my Golok either. I was talkin with a buddy of mine a month or so back and he told me he serrated the edge of his choppin....I think it may just be what they are choppin. I use mine mainly on small diameter stuff, up to wrist size. Max. Anything bigger, I grab an Axe or Hawk.

I do live in hardwoods hell so it will take it out of a blade if one isnt carefull.

I'd love to know what he was chopping! If you can contact him to get a picture to me, I'll see if I can gnab him a replacement.

I use my Condors (and other machetes) on rock maple and oak all the time without any problems. Even in the dead of winter. I say GO FOR IT! :D

On another note, call me crazy, but I kind of miss the blue handles. It's such an easy color to find in the woods if you set it down. Even orange doesn't stand out so good in the fall, and it burns the eyes a touch more. Glad I got my Bush Knife when I did! :D
