Pics wanted: Condor Golok and 12" Bolo

I think the Khukri and Bolo are well suited with their thick stock. They are real brute choppers. Tramontinas are great (definitely more than half the thickness of a condor though) and I love them to death, but they are two different styles-light fast wrist action with a thin flat grind versus serious hacking with a convex. Both accomplish the task with ease.

I'd love to know what he was chopping! If you can contact him to get a picture to me, I'll see if I can gnab him a replacement.

Will do.

Great shelter Joe!

In fact, it's the same blade that the ESEE Lite Machete uses--and a fraction of the price! Sure it doesn't have the fancy micarta handle, but I'm fine with that. :D

I didn't realize that! I thought the ESEE was a modification of the "regular" El Salvator machete.

The 1075 El Salvador is thicker than the 420HC one, so you could say that both the EcoSurvivor and the ESEE Lite are based off of the stainless version but done in 1075. :)

I have condor's golok and i have beaten the living daylights out of it and i have never had any major chips....
Occasionally, I'll get a a few very tiny chips, but they are very easily removed.

Once, i hit my concrete floor and the only thing that happened was a chip in the floor:eek:!

For the price, you can't go wrong!

I'm at the factory in El Salvador right now. I might be able to pick up a replacement for your golok tomorrow if you can send me pictures.
SPRUCE WILL CHIP ANY KNIFE OR AXE. Check out page 93 in Volume 2 of Kephart where he talks about spruce and hemlock chipping axes out like they were made of glass. If there are any issues, send me the people's info. Period. Have you had any of yours chip?

Never knowingly tried the Spruce knots, but I can definitely attest to the Hemlock. Hemlock knots are among the hardest woods I've ever seen in my life. I've whittled on them, but I'd never try to chop one with any of my knives. If spruce is anywhere near as hard I would be trying it either.

I just had my little Condor collection out back today splitting up some well seasoned maple & oak that I had laying around the yard.
The Golok did a fine job of splitting:

No chips in the steel at all:

Had to try out my new Basic Bushcraft & Bushlore while I was at it:

These are some pretty sweet blades:

I'm really liking the Basic right about now!

Howdy folks-

I just took a small plunge and ordered a Condor 12" carbon bolo, and their 14" Golok. Very exciting! I wanted the Hudson Bay too, but decided these two were enough steel for now.
You really ARE Spooky! Before i read this i was compiling an order and i had just removed the Hudson Bay knife leaving the 12" Bolo and 14"Golok!
lol!

Good stuff guys! Thanks for the pics. Joe, that's some killer steel use. Nice looking shelter! That's an awesome environment for a machete.

Ha! Creepy! [cue twilight zone theme]

Love my Tramontinas but I gotta get me one of those short 14in. El Salvadors. Who else carries them besides Going Gear?

Machete Specialists has them. About the same $, but GG gives BF members a 5% discount, so they're good people...
