Below is a rough picture and description of a knife that I created in my head. I have been searching all over the internet for a knife like this to no avail. I want to know if any of you have ever came across a knife like this in your days? If no, where do I go on this site to find a knife maker that can make this knife for me? This knife has a specific purpose, I welcome all ideas about how you would want this knife in terms of how I am going to use it.

-knife purpose - worn as necklace, never removed, small enough to not get in the way while running/swimming/exercising

-possible steel - s30v, 154cm, or any steel with good edge retention and rust resistance

An interesting concept. But won't the knife 'spin' around on your finger when you're using it?

Just wondering...

Here might be an easy way to try out your idea without spending much:
Buy a CRKT Hole In One or their Renner Neckolas. Both of these have a hole similar to the one you've drawn, and the Renner has a very similar blade shape. Cut down the handle until left with only the hole frame and blade. Then see if it's a safe, practical, and useful tool.

Then go from there with refining the design and having a prototype custom made.

What if, rather than a sheath, you had a flat "bar" to protect the sharp edge, that rotates around the outside of the finger-hole, so that when extended it would give an extension to wrap your hand around and run your index finger through the hole? No sheath needed while maintaining the functionality of your original idea but adding further control by putting a "handle" in the palm of the user...

Food for thought!!

I was wondering that, too.

If you put a guard at the bottom like there is at the top, I think that potential issue would go away.

Definitely an interesting design!

Neat concept.

As for the spinning issue, I think the ridge at the top of the knife takes care of that. I could see holding it with the index and second fingers, with the thumb pressed against that rear ridge at the back.

Best,

Correct. Index finger in the hole, thumb pressed against the top ridge for leverage. The picture is pretty much true to size. I was thinking of having a texture cut into that top ridge also.

As for the sheath, I will handle that after I find the knife :D. However, I like the "a flat bar to protect the sharp edge..." idea. Thanks! And I need this to be a good quality steel. I have a United Cutlery knife that is similar to my idea (it was $12, haha) but I can't even cut butter with it.

Which forum topic can I post in to find knife makers who can build me this knife?

!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU! I have seen that second knife in many photos but have been unable to locate it! (although now that I have the knife specs I know it is longer than I want but I still thank you). And I definitely like the idea of modifying the first knife, I would have to replace my idea of the thumbrest ridge with a lower hook for my middle finger but it would still get the job done.

I have seen designs quite like this while searching for karambits. It is an ancient design.
If you do a search for "tiger claw" or "ninja claw", i'm sure you will eventually find something that fits your bill.

Protecting that sharp edge would definitely be a priority before i'd let that guy swing freely from my neck... I already lost one nipple that way

hahaha, ok, so I do have some ideas. If all else fails I will just do a kydex sheath. But that is my last resort because I want something nonbulky that looks more like an actual necklace vs a sheath/knife.

Updated the picture. This is the final shape that I have chosen before my mockups. The angle of the thumbpress may change slightly once I am holding it in my hand.

I think a choil on the bottom would make it safer.

Just ran across one like that by Alan Folts. His is called the Baby Bear.

you know that little protrusion on barber's scissors?

that might prevent the spin-thing. I think an opposing grip would be necessary, as pushing down with the thumb could pose problems should your cut abruptly slip.

Do a search for Kiku Matsuda. He makes several different variants of these. The Japanese name for them is Hari-Nezumi.
