Picture for John Powell (a Ram Dao)

Thanks guys. Yeah, when I first started collecting weapons, this was one of my "must haves." They were always so expensive, but I managed to find one from a French dealer who mistook it for an "African sickle" and picked it up at about US$300.

It's affiliated with the wrathful goddess Kali, though in art I've only seen it represented in areas under Bengali Tantric Hindu influence (which includes Nepal).

Last year, I was corresponding with this bellydancer out in LA, who said she wanted to take pictures with my Ram Dao in her 'Kali'/'Kama Sutra' costume. Naturally, I thought that would be a good thing. :D

That's the reason for the delay -- I was hoping to get that done. But I haven't heard from her in a long time... :(

How many blue bellydancers are there in LA? I may have seen her at a Cheb i Sabbah performance last Summer. IIRC, the one I saw had little burning torches attached to each fingertip.
If it wasn't her (and there are multiple blue bellydancers out there) that's not a bad thing, either. :D

Three at least, all part of the group called "Desert Sin":

Since you're local, track these girls down, man! I simply must have my picture. ;)

I am sure these things are purely ceremonial and not as old as I've seen them advertised as. I also have never seen one in any old engraving, wall carving, palace design, paintings, etc.

As to the bedeviling Blue Bellied Brahmin Beauty I wish I had more info. In LA you can probably find these women by the thousand shopping at the local grocery store. Or better yet, maybe there is a whole cult of them living in the Hollywood Hills.

Kis, you're investigative abilities are to be applauded, but threw me for a bit of a loop. A few years back I shot a commercial at the Ivar Theatre. Had I known what and who was to be on stage I would have timed it better or at least stuck around.

I think it behooves one of you forumites living down there to offer one of these nice girls some HI kukris to dance with. It could be a whole new promotional campaign for HI!

Rod,

Email forwarded with fingers crossed.

LA Forumites:

Go out and find these blue-bellied wonders! We could fit at least six blades in there. :D
