Hi everyone I really like this knife design but do not know where I can get one.

Does anyone know of any manufacturer that makes something similar to the picture, Puma no longer make these.

Because of daft UK Laws the lack of locking make it easer to carry in the UK.

many thanks

Is that about a 4 1/2 inch handle?

You can still get Cripple Creek #10 trappers made by Blackjack Knives during the 90's for a decent price. I know this because I recently sold one and took a huge loss on it. They come in both one and two blade configurations and they are slip joints, but so stiff that it might as well be a locking knife. Hopefully my attempt to post a picture works out...

I have the Yellow Handle Case barehead, slimline trapper in CV and it is a great knife. It carries nicely and is a pleasure to use. I used to EDC it a lot more, but fell under the influence and started carrying my same handled Peanut in CV as my work EDC.

hi thanks for moving my post to the right section, sorry for the newbie error. That blackjack is a beauty, no luck tracking one down on the internet though.

sunnyd they are both loverly knives, I am sort of inclined to go for something with a broarder blade, to be leagle a folder blade has to be under 3" so I want as much blade as I can get.

As I get older I am really aprecating the olderstyle trappers and stockmens.

Thanks for nothing guys, if you what a job done proberly then do it yourself, that knife is most similar to a Barlow style knife.

I don't know why I bother somethings ;)

Yep, the Prospector was made in Puma's heyday - you certainly won't find anything close to that kind of quality coming out of Puma these days. Before 1986 Puma made some of the best production knives in the world - in '86 the German Mark went sky high and the price of Puma knives practically doubled overnight. Puma was sold shortly after this and the quality of their knives dropped drastically... To make a long story short, any Puma you can find in the green and yellow boxes (pre '86) will be very high quality knives.

BTW, It's your lucky day...The fellow at pumaonly.com actually has a couple of the pre-'86 Prospector's in the G & Y box for sale. ($140 bucks a piece)

I guess this a supposed to be a joke.. Ok then, a barlow, ha, ha..

Just to be clear though, that puma knife is most like a bearhead trapper or I have heard it called a farmers trapper in some circles.. A Barlow
pattern it is most certainly not.

Hi it was a bad joke. Boozoo that is new to me about Puma, I have a hunters friend 6" fixed blade from the early time. I don't see how you could get better quality. The big thing was there molidonem steel which was there secret coca cola recipe.

I got the picture the website you mention. these days I am only interested in paying for good materials. honest carbon steel is all I am after.

Have discovered the American ebay and I am in heaven, planning to get an oldstyle Case absolute beauties.

I guess if you put a winky-smiley after it, you can make any outrageous and idiotic statement;)

No. Saying something like, "The new Schrade knives are the best there ever was and better than anything out there. ;)" Probably won't go over at all. It would probably set off the really bad joke alarm.

A  for sarcasm might have been more appropriate. ;) heheh.

I kinda thought you were joking.. Your culture is different than ours and I have a friend that came from somewhere in the Asian rim before he moved to the US. He would make near similar statements and laugh, and is one of the greatest folks I know, but lots of people do not no how to take him and misunderstand his intentions.. Anyway, no foul, no harm..

I am very glad you found eBay, it does have value but just be careful with whom you deal with. Sellers that have good reputation and have been around a while are a pretty safe bet.

Older Case XX knives with the old carbon steel that have good honest use are among one of the best values you can get, no question about it.. Good Luck and all the best!

ps <> By the way greebozz, I am curious, where is it that you live exactly?

I happen to have a couple of the puma prospectors and I would be willing to part with one. If you are interested please let me know.

Trust me it really was pretty lame attemp and humor, the thing is with forums It is hard to get over the tone of voice or a smile when saying something.

I am from the UK and it is hard to get good knives over here. I live in brighton and the only knive widely available is the swiss army range.

IF you are lucky one camping shop sells the Whitby range, it is a company that imports cheep knives and cloned rubish, wobbly blades and the like.

There are good American knives about but that are over twice the price of the US eg Buck 100 £59 pounds = $110

Check out Moonraker knives here in the UK , good selection to view. I bought a Canal Street Muskrat off them two weeks ago at a show .

Paul.
