I just upgraded my membership , so I decided to try posting a picture. It's a BAS that I reworked a bit. Hope this works...

Nice! Just FYI, you can use the code to make your attachment visible in-thread, like this:

[IMG]http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=2270420

Just open up the attachment and copy the url to your clipboard, then link it as an image by putting the url between one of these [img*] and one of these [/img*]. Just don't put an asterisk in between the brackets. You can make it visible in your original post by editing it once you've posted the attachment to include the linked image. I just wanted to try to spread this around a little, it took me a while to figure out how to do it myself.

I just used lemon juice on the blade to start the process. I like the look of a carbon blade that's been used in the kitchen for a while. The BAS is too big to use to spread mustard though.:)

Here's a bilton I did a little work on, too. The sheath is covered with South African ostrich leather.

Brian, what did you do to the handle? It looks slimmer, and darker, almost as if made of walnut. Looks very good.

I just took off a little material here and there that the kami would have, if he had the time. I try not to change the original intention of the kami, I just smooth things up a little and add some definition.
It's horn, not pollished on a wheel, just sanded down to 400 grit, then #0000 steel wool and a bit of polishing compound on a rag, Then a rub with olive oil.
My Baldor polishing motor is under my workbench somewhere. Haven't had much use for it last few years. Don't like what it does, mostly, I guess.
Here's a Bura hanshee I did a little work on recently. Hope you like it.[

I think you really grabbed the idea of how these should look and the Bilton's sheath is a thing of beauty.

I really appreciate the feedback from you kind folks. This forum is a very special place, I think. I feel very comfortable here.

Very nice, especially the Bilton. I'll try something like that when mine arrives.

Brian,
That's really nice work. So are you making the handles a little flatter on the sides? I like that, I've always thought that a more oval handle would be better suited to a chopping tool. Please keep posting pictures of your work.
Regards,
greg

Uncle Bill doesn't recognize the "V B" kami mark on the BAS in the first picture. He thought it might be a visiting kami. Anyone seen it before, or know anything about it?
It was a much less sophisticated finish than my Bura BAS in every respect. I don't know if I'll re-work the Bura, or leave it as an example of his craft. If I do, decide to, I won't do much to it. Any advice on that subject?
B.

Brian-- good work! I really like the handle on the BAS--looks very smooth and comfortable. Nice sheath on the Bilton, too.

Wow, must have overlooked this post somehow, glad I took a peek. Well done Brian:D , I especially like that ostrich leather treatment on the Bilton scabbard. Gotta love them Biltons, stout little workers, and they lend themselves readily to personalizing.

I rubbed out this blade to a satin finish, because the original finish had some buffed over scratches. I guess that's why it's a "villager" and the price was so great. I believe this is a 600 grit finish. Shiny enough for my taste.
I used the left-over ostrich leather from the bilton sheath to trim this one. Don't waste anything around here. I did a little work on the tools too.
The handle has a zillion coats of my secret finish. It's the same secret finish everyone uses -
