On the middle and bottom examples, the tied bunch of cord can slide up and down the two strands, so you can set it exactly where you want it according to your individual preference. For the ones that are already fixed the position of the fob can vary depending on how thick a knife you have to put the loop through. Not really a problem on Subcoms because they're so slim but on other knives it may not give you the position and/or length you want.
Also, on the slider fobs I sometimes like to move it far enough so that I can slip my pinky finger in the loop. It gives even more security and allows you to dangle the knife off the end of your hand if you need to temporarily grip something with both hands and can't safely, or don't want to, put the knife down.
