Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about getting a swisstool for christmas this year. I have been carrying a Core, and a Powerlock, but i think its time to finally go for the swisstool. (I used to have a spirit but my ex roomate stole it :(). The problem is that i typically carry the heavy tools in my back pocket next to my wallet, and the Core is just a bit too thick for this, where as the powerlock is pretty decent. So i was hoping for a picture from someone of the thickness of the Core and swisstool or powerlock and swisstool side by side. Can anyone help me out?

The Victorinox SwissTool X and SOG Powerlock are about the same thickness.

aha, well thank you very much. is there a chance that you also have a picture of them "on edge" too, as in width? your pic is making me seriously consider a swisstool now

their chassis thickness is about the same, only the hex nuts/pins make the SOG slightly bigger.

thank you very much guys, i've decided to get a swisstool now :). I always assumed that the swisstool was going to be much bigger than that.. but i think its going to be the perfect size to carry.

it's big and got some weight! similar to the SOG (but less than the Surge). For size/weight I truly like carrying the Spirit myself, it's perfect and still has a lot of tools.

I find that weight isn't really a problem for me. i wear jeans every day (casual college student attire), and my multitool rides next to my wallet in my back pocket. The weight isn't even noticeable, but size is important. The core is too wide/thick, so its uncomfortable and gets in the way. the sog however, is much thinner and isn't obtrusive at all. So, if the swisstool is smaller than the core, then i am all for carrying it instead.

That is a good question. I think i have settled on the RS model. I like the rescue serrated blade because I am a volunteer firefighter and i have seen where it could come in handy. Additionally, i like scissors (none of the tools i have carried before this have had them, and i think they'd be really useful). I don't think i will miss the file, i never seem to use it anyway. Do you find the pliers are stronger than those on the core or powerlocK? They look like they are substantially beefier in pictures. Also, how hard do you think the tools are to get out? I have heard that they are very stiff from some people, and then from others that it isn't too hard to get implements out. Thanks for the help!

Hi Kronos,

Take a look at the Leatherman Blast before you decide. I've got a bunch of M-T's and find myself carrying the Blast most of the time. Very decent value for the money and the tools are great.

Best - Joe

PS - have a total of 4 SwissTools and Spirits - great tools, but shelf queens.

Joe,
The blast looks like a really nice tool. It seems to me to be the most efficient tool leatherman offers, in terms of tools to size. Why do you keep the swisstools as shelf queens if i may ask?

the SOG Powerlock, and now the PowerAssist have the best, strongest pliers for holding, with the compound leverage.
The older SOGs (powerlocks) clumped some, but the newer PowerAssist is better.

No clumping in Swisstools, and the tools come out very smooth and easy, and very good scissors too.

Hi Kronos,

I have a rather large number of multi-tools. I've carried the Vic tools and think they are OK. I just prefer several of my Leatherman a great deal more.

Buy that which appeals to you and enjoy.

Cheers - Joe

i used to really like my sog powerlock pliers, until i broke one of the plier jaws off. Now im not so sure that i want to go back to sog.

I was always a leatherman guy too, but ive found what i like starting to shift towards the swiss offerings. Thats the beauty of having so many high quality companies out there producing multi tools though :D

good point Kronos, more is better! I'd like to see a pic of that broken SOG, and did you use the warranty?
