Hi, folks. Gonna a start with a photo of the knives I'm bringing to play with. I'm going retro/and old on some of them, because I want to see how they fare, and going very basic on others. I would NEVER have this many blades in a real survival situation, but they are all along for the ride.

Top row starting left (aligned vertically):
1. Simonich Kanji kit knife in A2 steel (a highly-prized gift from Rob and the Hoods and serious slicer), with rawhide-wrap

2. SAK Rucksack model, in Normark custom sheath, worn as neck knife, with ferrocium rod pushed up into the outer sheath of paracord (holds firmly)

3. Cold Steel Bushman

4. A 42-year-old Collins Hatchet my father owned, and that I've used hard. Still going strong.

5. Imperial M-7 Survival knife, circa 1981, still going strong - second fixed blade I ever owned and has never failed me.

Bottom row starting left (horizontal):
1. TOPS Wolfpup (on my belt everyday)

2. TOPS CQT Magnum 747 folder (my all-around favorite user, daily carry - has been through hell and back with me in many extremes.)

3. TOPS Tactical Toothpick (a gift from the Fullers, not a for-sale item, made from old trigger assemblies from world war two. It's always attached to a beltloop.

One of my goals on this trip is to use the tiny knives for big jobs, and see how they fare, and use the large blades for tiny jobs and see how they fare. It'll be a nice test of how to use blades to their max if you only have one or the other.

I like that Rucksack rig....hmmmm, thanks for the idea:thumbup:

Have a great safe trip!!!

Craig

Craig,

The sheath is by Eric/Normark, who posts here on the forums. It is an awesome piece of gear, keeps the SAK very handy! The idea for stuffing the ferrocium rod just kind of occurred to me one day, and the springy tension of the nylon squeezes around it holding it in place, but I can take it out and use it without much effort. You have to "work it" in and out a little. Here's a close up.

That little "tactical toothpick" is awesome. Looks like it could come in very handy. Is it sharpened allthe way to the ring?

The Tactical Toothpick is very handy. It has a small choil/cutout just before the ring.

that's a nice selection you got going there brian.... i often take a "few" extra knives too......:D

i like that rucksack sheath... i have one of those, eric made, for my SAK OHT... i love it...

Back a day early. Brett came down with a head cold/chest flu which was in full swing by the time we got up there, and Joel (another friend on the trip) and I caught it, and it took us down a couple notches for a bit. So, our skills practice was cut out by sickness and because we had to work on the apple trees up at the camp, in order to get them ready to sprout properly come spring. We had whiteout conditions Sunday. Here's a pic of the weather. More to come - I detailed a lot of the homestead style living done up at this land - mainly living 1800s-early 1900s style with no electricity, and I'll post more on that when I get settled in and de-stinkified...

Always wanted one of the TOPS magnum folders. Ever since seeing Rons when you guys filmed vol. 11. Have a great time!

tknife,

My TOPS Magnum is the same one from the video, actually! A nice remembrance of a great time.

Another pic: Brett on left, Joel on right, enjoying the "balmy" weather...

I'll post more pix when I can. right now at 102 deg fever and my voice is shot. Hopefully it'll clear up by tomorrow.

Osama was used as our target and the shirt is now full of bullet holes. :D

Brett plans on still wearing it...lol.

Thanks for the get wells - just an annoying flu-thing, no big deal. Feeling a bit better today. Here's a pic progression of the land as the snow came on - the teepee gradually fades into the snow...first one is in the sun...

Coyote tracks in the snow...some of the the coyotes here look as big as wolves, and there's rumor that coyotes and timber wolves have interbred, but I'm not certain of that...this one was a little guy.

More in-depth pics to come...
