This is my 14 inch forge. The burner is a Harbor Freight propane burner. As I posted before I lined the forge with 2" thick inswool and am on my second layer of satanite. After finishing this coat I will apply ITC-100 and call it a day! This last application of Satanite was much better since I was very carefull when adding water to the satanite(I mixed it tooo thin last time), I had it decently thick which made it easier to form. I let the forge sit for a while and then fired it up, since it was dark I was able to see how the flame swirled in the forge. The yellow flame swirled in the middle with the blue sworling around the walls of the forge. It looked cooler then pictures could show.

I measured the temperature of the forge and found that the rear of the forge was much much much much cooler then the front (the heat exits here very quickly with a 12 inch depth). I mounted the burner at about the 7 inch point and should have placed it even father to the rear which would have facilitated heating the forge better!

I only ran it for a short time to help cure the satanite. Around the rim about 700-900F and that was with the burner NOT maxed out. I really need to run it and see what it puts out! I'll post what I come up with. It might take a day or so since I have about 100 projects I need to handle and only a few days to do it in!

Pretty nice! It looks like your not getting enough oxygen though. Do you know what PSI you were running at?

No I don't! I wish I did!! I need to find a pressure regulator. I keep cranking her up just to hear all the noise (it is louder then I thought it would be).
I'm almost thinking about a second burner facing inward from the entrance (I bought two while on sale at Harbor Freight for $18.00 each).

OK, lesson learned. I had layed some of the satanite on very thickly this time!!! Because of this I probably should have waited a lot longer to fire her up then I did!
The satanite cracked but luckily it was only near the openings and not in the forge! I will either patch it up with satanite or ITC-100 when I do the finishing coat! It is only thin cracks from heating a little too quickly (only on the face of the forge). Not big deal and will not effect performance!

I waited about half an hour before I fired up the forge after laying down the satanite. If you lay it down when it is really thick I might suggest waiting overnight to fire up the forge to help cure the satanite!!

Looks like its doing pretty good. I need to get me something together like that. How hot was it getting?

Burton, I actualy cut the hole for the burner with a hole cutter (for a dead bolt door lock for steal doors from Home Depot) and a die grinder. I then Tac welded it into the forge. I would sugggest that you place the burner about the 9 inch mark and NOT center mass of the forge! Harbor Freight has a bunch of stuff that you can use and that burner isn't bad (obviously not the greatest but hopefully effective which we'll find out shortly). I do need to get my hands on some fire bricks to close up the front which I think will help build up heat!!
I'm on a budget so I will either use a 55lb forge from Harbor Freight or I'll just use the back of my vise. Apperently nobody has anything good to use as a anvil and all the scrap metal places don't let people walk around to buy scrap because of their insurance!

I was getting 700F today. I am still working on it since there are some flaws in my design!
