This handle (Cold Steel Barong Machete) is not particularly grippy. I wrapped it in electrical tape and roughened it up a little with sandpaper. The butt is quite grippy though: the hook at the end makes it virtually impossible for you to release the knife accidentally while you are chopping.

This USA frcp seems grippier than the seki FRN. Requires synthetic rit dye vs regular for the frn. In general though, spyderco bi-directional tread is top notch grippy stuff.
