sweet, so kershaws damascus will make a good light user? thanks.
I have not taken mine past slicing newspaper, but I have heard of some using the damascus leek and damascus shallot for EDC. The layered steels are no slouch, and it has an interesting cut geometry (or w/e it's called
I think you'd have to sharpen it a little more often than the sandvic steels in the brother knife, but otherwise, mine is quite solid.
Interesting damascus story:
Our neighbor, who is in his 80's, bravely fought in WW2. When his squadron came to oversee the Japanese to help rebuild the cities/community work/make sure everything's in order after the war was over, he and his fellow soldiers bought some authentic damascus samurai swords for a killer price and brought them back to the US. An interpreter explained how valuable those swords were, and the work and process that went into every one of them.
Sadly, when he had kids, he sold them for fear that they would hurt themselves on the blades. He sold them over 40 years ago.
When I showed him my damamscus shallot, and the uniqueness of the blade, that sparked his memory and he told me that story. He had no idea that that method was still used, and he thought it disappeared into private collections decades ago.
