Before Bixby Bridge was built in 1932, the mail would be delivered to Big Sur via Old Coast Road from Monterey in the north once per week. It was an overnight trip by horseback each way. And once a week William Post would ride his horse north through the valley, pick up the mail and ride home dropping off mail at everyone's house inbetween. Anyone who lived south of him could come get their mail. Here's the old hollowed out redwood where he'd pick that mail up from Monterey. There would have been a large leather flap covering the opening. 20230108_115512.jpg20230108_115522.jpg

And Big Sur is absolutely leaking at the moment!20230108_115603.jpg
