This is the XL version of the Kizer Feist, designed by Justin Lundquist. I haven't put it through "new knife orientation" yet but based on a little carry and use, I like it. (It seems I wasn't alone in wishing the original Feist was bigger.) Ergonomics are mostly good but I may end up smoothing over the thin micarta edge behind the lock bar.
 
Any idea what kind of tree/wood that is?

No idea. The stump has been there for a few years. Ants have colonized it and the woodpecker's hammering caused the effect.

It's a Pileated Woodpecker, the largest we have in North America and this one is a prime example. One of these days, I'll get a good picture of him.

That’s if you believe the Ivory-billed is actually extinct 😁.

Pileated’s are such cool birds. We have a pair that lives in my neighborhood.
