Specs:

This is the platen for tapering the tangs. It pivots on the aksel for the contactwheel. Setuptime is less than 30 sec.!

Nice grinder, did you buy the wheels or make them? If you made them what did you use? What size belt does it take?

Thanks,
Bob

Its built with custom made wheels. Its was not more expensive to do it like that so that was easy. Its designed to take 2"*72" but will take both smaller and bigger in length because the tracker wheel can be moved up and down. Yet I have no need to change the size.

wow! that's oneheck of a grinder. the one i'm making is a different stlye. it has 3 wheels, and without the platen only 2.
it's a v-belt drive. i can use a 3"x132" belt for flat grinding, and switch to a 2"x 72" for hallow grinding.

not finished yet, it'll be a while, i'm doing a real fancy paint job on it also. epoxy paint, i also need to buy some parts, and have the wheels made.

Thank you for the insite now I know how I am going to mount the 2hp pump motor I have to make me a new grinder I allready have several but you can never have too many huh
I like the little platten thing too way cool thank's for sharing it

Jens, In the picture of your grinder in front of the motor and attached to the idler support arm, It looks like a pair of vicegrips. What do they do? I agree on the H.P.

TJ: The tracker is in the top wheel. The same way as on your plans!

MikeS: The wisegrip is a ups solution to a problem cause by bad geometri. The arm was supposed to go over the top and then hold it self in place by the tension of the belt. But this didnt happend and I needed the grip. I like it though because it holds the arm very tight and I´t wont accedently move forwards.
