Pid - Toaster Oven Conversion

Thanks Stacy, I printed this one out !!! I see a project in the near future. Why do I spend more time building tools than knives ???

Why do I spend more time building tools than knives ???

:D Because you're a knifemaker! It's such a specialized job even today that we all find ourselves providing a lot of the tools we need. Well, and because it's so satisfying to make your own stuff. ;) I've been following this valuable tread too and will use its wisdom when I finally get around to building that salt pot I've been collecting parts for. That will be truly fine... :D

Oh, oh. I think we're in for it now. Keep your head down Eric, we're likely to take some heat (no pun intended). :o:eek::foot:

You know the "keep the heat in" issue? I saw that Indian George put a fire brick in the bottom of his little tempering toaster oven to help hold the heat and lessen the ups and downs of the heat cycles.

Since I can never hit the same tempering temp twice in a row on my piece of crap kitchen oven, and I was going to get a toaster oven for kydex in the shop, this PID conversion is going to come in handy for tempering. Thanks very much for taking the time to explain this set up!!!

Welcome to Shop Talk.

As you may now have figured out, you are the recipient of the "Golden Shovel" award for resurrecting this thread after eight years.
Many people have modified toaster ovens and made their own controlled forges. There are probably some photos around the forum pages.

Fill out your profile and read the stickys ( where there is more info on things like this). The BF search engine is in the stickys, and it will help you find all kinds of stuff.

On an old thread it is better to post any questions in a new thread and post a link to the older info thread that you saw.
