Does anyone have any leads or a small piece of cave lion ivory or bone? Small, scrapish piece suitable for a small bread or two. Not knife lanyard size, like necklace accent bead size. I'm working on a project for a very special young woman's 13th birthday. Her mother and I are getting divorced, but I've been the girls' dad (ok, stepfather, but they have always called me D2) since they were 5 & 6. I can't walk away from them.
I know it's not knife related, but Stacy, please leave it here for just a little bit. I don't know where else it might get the traffic from people who might be able to point me in the right direction.
If I can't find cave lion, I'll use mammoth scrap I have, but I'd like to use cave lion if I can.
She's a little hippy in the making and she's a Leo, which she proudly tells everyone. So, I made her this today. Her birthday is Friday.
I started out with a piece of galvanized #9 wire and heated and drew it out to small rectangular shaped stock and then bent using jigs, pliers and small hammers. I see why you guys that forge love it so much! Damn it's addicting whacking hot steel.
Colored by heating and dropping in oil several times, copper flame colored with the torch. I'll string it it on hemp or leather, hopefully flanked by cave lion beads. Otherwise, I'm going to make a couple mammoth beads.
