So heres an interesting piece of damascus. Size is about 7.5 inches long by 1.5 wide and about an 1/8th thick. Has a rather unique pattern to it. Question is .....

What would you make out of it?

I would certainly like to have that !! To see some of my folders go to customknifegallery.co, scroll down on the left hand side and you will see my name to click on. Frank

I would try to make a hidden tang knife and carefully cut out the hidden tang part and use it for bolsters. OORRR I would send it to me.:foot::D

I would go with a 4" blades mini bowie with a nicely etched guard and pomel, or some sort of gentlemans hunter/skinner. I can picture the profile looking at the steel and think the pattern would fit nicely with either, but I am a noob so what do I know

It is a very nice piece of pattern welded steel i have only ever bought steel from one person that drills that little hole. Was it Al May that made it? Regardless of what you decide to make you will find that it is flawless.

Folding lock back camp knife with matching bolsters.
4" for the blade + 1" for the tang, the rest for the two bolsters. Stag handles.

Whatever I made it would be hidden tang so that i could use as little steel as possible from the damascus. Just beyond the ricaso area of the blade it'd be cut off and dovetailed to a plain steel tang (similar to how Jim Siska makes his blades) as that would allow the least waste of gorgeous material being hidden inside a handle =)

Thanks for the ideas guys. Its hard to try and think of the best way to use something like this. I appreciate the input.

I posted earlier but notice my post is not here so ill be blunt this time . That looks like illegal contraband send it to me or im calling the cops

Personally, I would cut it in half width wise and make two slim knives out of it. I must say, that is some of the coolest damascus ever, IMO. I would love to have that piece, or one very similar to it.
