Some of you may have seen the sub-hilt bowie I shared recently. If not, you can see it here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...cker-(Sub-Hilt-Bowie)?p=16126066#post16126066

That knife was part of a set of hog knives I was making for my brother and myself. Well, the set is now done. My knife is finished. I didn't want to make the same exact knife so mine is a bit different but still obviously part of the set.

Critiques and comments welcomed.

Blade: Aldo's A2, 11"
Guard: 416SS with black G10 and 316SS spacers, polished interior surfaces with satin finished sides
Handle: Stabilized, black dyed curly maple from Mark at Burl Source with 316 pin and lanyard tube.
OAL: 16 & 5/8"
Sheath: Kydex, cross draw with slight cant.

excellent ! i agree with HSC, you would pass instantly. and the numbers are nice and straight :)

Beautiful. Worthy of any collection. I especially like the lines of the sub-hilt and guard/spacers.

1st pic: Did the pin cause a crack? It looks like there's a line.

2nd pic: The plunge line looks almost like it has a double-step. Might just be a shadow, but curious if there was a stylistic choice there.

Are the silver rivets at the tip purely stylistic, or is there a functional difference to them?

Man, I think your knives have great lines. The fit and finish appear awesome as well,

Nice Job brother--good on ya!!!

Thanks everybody!

No journeyman smith test just yet. These are stock removal.

Yep, got the numbers straight on these. :p

FunkCoaster, Thank you. No cracks in the handle. What you see is a line in the grain that didn't take the dye. No double steps in the plunge. Click on the images and it will take you to the full size image. You can enlarge it and inspect the details. No difference in the sheath eyelets except for the color. It's just a design element, a way of bringing the silver down into the sheath, aesthetically tying it into the knife.

I think if I planned on making a knife for my brother and it turned out like that, my brother wouldn't be getting it. Good thing I don't have a brother. Those are beautiful!

Absolutely amazing work.the only thing I don't like are the rivets in the sheath for mounting going all the way down.

WOW! Man, those two knives are superb! Love the photos too. Can't get much better than this....if at all.

They are breathtaking. Fantastic work.
