Thanks everybody! Dyed woods aren't my first choice either. But for this project I needed the black & silver theme goin' on. I considered black Micarta for the handle but I wanted a little bling and interest in the handle. So the black maple was a good compromise.
They are in color. See the little red spacer stripes? I thought they were B&W pics as well, until I saw red spacers. It just LOOKS B&W being as it is a "gray steel", "white" steel (polished SS) and two tone gray/black handle on a gray and black marble counter top.
That is a beautiful knife. If that's "rudimentary knife skills", we're gonna love your "experienced" skills down the road.
