Hey guys just wanted to see what your thoughts are on this?

A maker sales a knife.... then the guy who buys it?

Links his for sale thread to that thread?

Do you see this as OK or NOT OK?

My thoughts - the guy re-selling should do his own photos and stop piggy backing off the makers post.....

What do you say?

As long as it's okay with the maker, the knife is in the same condition as when purchased and the member who is currently selling has the proper membership I don't see a problem.

It wouldn't bother me, but it's probably polite to ask the maker if they would mind before doing it.

Take it as a compliment. They're implying that they can't get better pictures of the product than what you originally posted.

I see no real issue, anotehr option would be to copy and save the pic from the previous ad to the new one (and acknowledge that they are "pics from original for sale thread" or the like). As long as none of it is misleading or inaccurate etc.

It doesn't bother me personally if someone links back but I have heard some folks say it concerns them because current pics by a seller better shows the seller actually has the knife in their possession and it's current condition. A link back may not show a new sheath rub or slight mark that may have occurred since delivery. Technology is too cheap and easy nowadays to not take your own pics.

I would ask the maker first.

If you are looking to buy a custom or handmade knife on the secondary market its nice to see what it originally went for.

If the condition has changed it would be careless not to add current photos.

This is a good point Bill, exactly what I was thinking. It's always better for all involved to show the item as it is now, not as it was when new.

The act its self doesn't bother me, but I would much rather see up to date pictures of the actual knife for sale owned by the seller. Posting pics taken by someone else of a knife that wasn't even owned at that point is just opening one up for possible issues. Those issues being the condition the knife is received in and even just proof of ownership if the knife is lost in transit or something.

I don't mind seeing the original pics in an ad, as long as the seller adds at least one good pic that they took.

^^^ Agreed.

There is another intangible in this: The seller, by the very act of reselling shortly after, is sending a message that the knife wasn't worth it to him. He wants out.

Sure life gets in the way, but responsibility to yourself and the maker's reputation is also involved.

I don't have an answer, however, keeeping the new post intact with ONLY new information is less damning?

I hope I'm wrong.
