hey guys, read an article about the pikal a few months ago but havent gotten to play with one. anyone get into it? how is it? the article said it was good in a variety of grips, is that true? how bout the wave?

and secondly im lookin at maybe getting a spydie karambit. they look real small though and kinda uncomfortable... anyone have any input on that? possibly a comparison or in-hand pic?

ive only got one spyderco. an all stainless police as a dress knife and man that thing is huge. i love VG-10.

Get the P'kal, once you get the hang of the wave, you will like. The ball lock on the P'kal is solid, zero plade play.

I'll second that...construction is like a bank vault. I've had mine and used it as my EDC for a couple months now. It also comes very, very sharp.

It *works* in standard grip. Not particularly comfortable, the edge is so fine that i'm not sure how well suited it is for extended utility use.

So in short, I think it would suffice. Not excel.

I'll hve to agree with Swingshot. Its a nice knife..I used to have one...but I would go with a different Kbit or maybe have a custom one made for your hand. Plenty of makers that will do that for a good price. I have a collection of 22 Kbits(Spydie included) and the Spydie Kbit is 'ok' for the price...but I carry a Fox Kbit and a Spyderco Civilian daily.

What are you looking to do with it?? You want something for Self defense or for utility bro??

thanks for the info guys. id have to say "self defense" just as a guise to buy another knife. haha.

I love my Spydie karambit but I'll admit I haven't really cracked into the high end knives as much as others. It isn't particularly small, blade size is smaller than other folders with similiar handles but that's because of the handle design.

I hope these can help with the size reference:

Standard magazine page size.

The P'Kal does exactly what it's designed to do. It feels great in the reverse ice-pick grip and in the forward saber-grip with the edge facing up, and it comes out of my pocket faster than any other knife I've ever owned. However, it's a terrible EDC utility knife. The knife is only comfortable in the hand when the edge is facing as intended using Pikal fighting techniques and grips, but if you hold the knife as you would when doing general cutting, it's not comfortable at all. Even removing the wave doesn't help much in that regard. Also, in my opinion, the tip is a bit too delicate for an EDC.

None of that has stopped me from carrying it on the subway in LA. For it's intended use, as a self-defense knife using Pikal techniques, it's the best folding knife in existence, but it's really not suitable as a general utility knife. That's what my ZDP Delica is for.

Get a waved Endura for everyday use and keep the Pikal unused and sharp for what it's intended for.

I concur completely. And welcome to these forums, shangchi!
