Pillow blocks and shafts

I am in the planning stage of making my own grinder and have a few questions. The only thing I have so far is the motor. I have found pillow blocks that bolt down to a base but cannot find blocks that mount on the side like the ones used by Ken Kelly http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t248/alphairon/KMG Clone 2/?action=view&current=24.jpg
Where can I find these?
Next question where do you get the shafts for them? Cannot find anything on this.
Last question (yea right!) How are the drive wheels or contact wheels held onto the shaft? Thanks

I've got them. The part number is a UCF-204-12 4-bolt flange bearing with 3/4" bore. $15 ea. These are the same used on the KMG. Here's a link to the drive wheel, drive shaft and stuff....

or check with your local industrial suppliers for the bearings...it's a standard.

I hope this helps.

rfink I had found your listing right away when I did a search, but I was looking for the pillow block that mounts to the side not the ones that mount to a base. Also how to the wheels mount to the shafts (can I order just the shafts?) thanks for the reply

Fastenal has O-1 rods usually in stock you can buy a
5/8 or 3/4 for about $10-15 either diameter will make a fine
shaft

Thanks Deker that is exactly what I am looking for. Tommegow Wasn't aware that fastenal had a local office, thats right where I am; is this a walk through (look at stuff) place or do they just take orders

A little of each. I always go into my local Fastenal and chat with the guys. Sometimes they have what I need there, if not they can usually have it next-day.

Hey Randy.
The Fastenal place is open to browse. I've been there several times. The counter help is focused on taking care of industrial/manu sales and lose interest in a 'little guy' browsing but they have a few things you can use or at least you can find out what they carry. It's by R&R tire in lower North Mankato.
There is a place to get the bearings behind Casey's, near C&S hardware. It's called Bearings and something. Good guys to work with. Rob has a great price on pillow blocks/bearings and you probably won't find them cheaper unless you get a special buy on ebay.
Let me know if you need something welded or want some help putting one together. I've been meaning to build a spare belt grinder for the garage myself.

thanks T I am just starting to collect materials right now, and will try to buy a little at a time.. I think I have downloaded every plan or photo of homemade grinders I could find. I am also coverting a grainery to a shop and that is going to take most of the summer (because of money not amount of work). Got it insulated and outlets and lights wired, need to install breaker and wallboard, ceiling. Oh almost forgot I have to dig a 90 foot trench for electric by hand. Won't be getting 220v because electrian wants 1,000 bucks.

Hi rk, If you have to dig anyway, lay the wiring that would work with 220v. A breaker and a case of beer might get it hooked up down the road, but it probably won't happen if you have to redig. Anyway, I was just going to mention that you can also reconsider Rob's comment as an option. I think he was listing the style of bearing you're looking for.
Best of luck, Craig
