Pilot Survival Knife

Interesting thread. I had one of these knives during my all-expense-paid trip to exotic lands, but the blade steel was pretty soft; I couldn't get it to hold an edge, and ended up acquiring a KaBar.

I can understand Mr. Beck's desire for guards, but I would have given a lot to have something like my current SRK back in those days; especially the kydex sheath.

Just for grins, does anyone know why the pommel on that Air Force "pilot's" knife was hexagonal?

I don't know, but I'd love to hear it.

It looks like the Spanish company, Aitor, has come out with a challenger to the Pilot Survival Knife. There is an ad for the Aitor Hammerhead in the latest issue of Tactical Knives (Nov 2001).
It has a 5 and 1/2 inch 440C blade, rubber handle with a metal butt made for hammering, and a double guard. The only negative is that the guard is part of the rubber handle, and not made of steel.
Anyone know how's the quality of the Aitor brand?
