HI, guys. Gonna buy a Pilot's knife. I have seen it on lists here as a good knife for the money.

Before I buy. Does it matter Camillus vs Ontario? Does it matter the old manufactured ones (1980s but "new, never issued") vs new manufactured ones? Was their a change in steel or something or maybe an improvement in sheath?

Thanks

If you can get one by Camillius, I'd say get it. The Pilot's Knife by Camillius is a bit more desirable since Camillius went out of business. Other than that, either are a good beater knife.

I have both and the Camillus version is a little better in overall fit and finish (not that either one has a lot mind you :)). If you can find one, that's would I suggest. Some say the heat-treat at Camillus was a little more consistent too, but I don't know the validity of that. They make fine field knives, once you re-profile the edge thinner. They have an ugly, rugged kind of beauty that just says "go ahead and use me" that I personally find appealing. Get the metal-tipped sheath too if you can. I prefer the look of the all-leather one but the metal tip is definitely safer.
