I know how it happened, I was simply precious about using my ka-bars; somehow previously I'd managed to acquire a his n hers set of k-bars, a Winchester Ranger branded folding tanto, and a couple of Gerber tools of various descriptions amongst other things, but come to the crunch and getting my kit together to have my first experience of real hunting out in the wild and it would seem as though I simply could not resist buying another knife.
Some months, and an additional injury to my already injured back later, I find aforementioned knife at the back of my bookcase - the engraving/model ident tells me it's a Schrade SCHF27, and it has an overmoulded grip with a removable gut hook tool. The grip is pretty much all I don't like about the knife, that and the fact it is various shades of plastic and grey - on paper it is made from fairly good steel and built to do everything a survival/hunting knife should.
And this is where I'd insert a photo of the knife after a hacksawed the rubber grip away... but apparently this forum doesn't work like I expected it to.
Needless to say, I will be paracording the grip and hopefully it will find a new lease of love and a life less boring.
