There are YT videos on anodizing. One shows some little kid, maybe 12 yrs old, doing a nice job of "blueing" his knife. His little sister is sitting there bugging him all the time, and it adds a comic addition.
Yes, I have the chemicals from Lowe's sitting on my workbench...wonder when I'll get around to it. The blue color is the easiest to do...and comes quickly, and I really enjoy that color. No need to go crazy with colors unless you want to...in which case you'll likely want a "Variac" type which gives you control over various necessary voltages...
I'm sure it would be fun...I'm just slow to get around to it.
