looking for advice on how to reduce the big burr i get when i grind down the pins. even when i am finishing up with a fine grit i still have a really big burr hanging over the edges of the hole ontop of the wood.

thanks alot

Final work it with files for the last 1/32" to 1/16". Although I've never had this issue. Maybe you're using worn belts?

You can avoid burrs by grinding pins down with brand new belts instead of used ones. I use a new 50 grit to cut pins down.

I'm not sure what hinda pin we're talking about, but i chuck mine up in an old drillpress and use a file to rould the ends .followed by 400 grit sandpaper to break any burrs.but thats for folders.

sorry bali, didn't specify. i meant reinforcement pins on a fixed blade.

thanks for the tips guys. i will try these...

I cut as much excess pin off with a bandsaw/hacksaw. Use new belts and finish with a file, then sand.
