Pin placement tip

Sando, brave attempt mate. Most of you guys follow the golden rule/section without realising it. The math is man's humble attempt at explaining a phenomenon that renders a line, form or object beautifull/pleasing to the eye. Most of you are poets and don't know it.

If a formula can help you refine a design, use it. If you still don't appreciate Sando's tip I would be more than happy to beat you to death with my Degree in Industrial Design. :D

You are so right about the real role of math in our world. The math that I use at work (electronics design) is really only valid, as an aproximation, within a particular envelope. Once we go outside that envelope, the magic smoke typically starts to escape from the components that the math is supposed to describe.

I am sure many of us beginners would be quite happy to be at your current skill level. You keep getting better and better. I immagine that when you start feeling content about your work, it would be even more amazing.

Mike says my work looks like disco. ;) But you wouldn't want to see me make things random!

Steve

PS, Mike in your avatar ... Isn't that a 5" handle and 8" blade? You artist you.
No, I was not comparing your work to disco. Nobody makes knives that bad.;)
I was loosely comparing using the golden rule conciously on every knife to the way disco was made.
My whole vague point being to trust your own good taste, and design skills by doing, and possibly failing, but always learning.:D
I like the old engineering maxim, that "if it looks good, it usually works good!"

The avatar knife has a 5 3/8" handle, 14"OAL. IMO, it should have a handle 4 3/4"-5" max, and a 91/4-1/2" blade. Maybe if I'd been listening to a BG's tape while drawing that one out, I might have done a better job. ;)
I like the overall shape though.:)

OK! OK! I THINK I GOT IT!!!

If 1/3 of a chicken could lay 1/3 of an egg in 1/3 of a day, it would take a monkey with 1/3 of a pegleg to kick 1/3 of the crap out of a 3 legged dog till 7 A.M. WED. if he started at 12:00 am Sunday! :D :D
