I use brake line for all my thong holes. Its available right in my field from the old retired pickups and junk cars. It makes good thong holes. Never had any problems with rust, and some of these knives have been around for a few years. Go for it.
I use a lot of different tubing and pinstock. K&S Engineering makes tubes and pins that are available at Ace hardware usually. If they don't carry the size you use, they'll order it for you.
I use 7/16" tubing, 1/4" tubing, 3/8" tubing, and just about every size pin you can think of, in a lot of different materials.
