Pink knife?

Hi, all!

I'm looking to finally upgrade from my Swiss Army Knife and Leatherman to something a little more... erm... substantial. This IS my first knife so I'm not looking for anything extreme. I would like a knife that will be useful (but not primarily used) in the shop and backstage that will fit in a girl's jeans pocket/can easily be operated by smaller hands. I would like it to have a blade under 3". Ideally, it would be under $60, but I'm willing to splurge a little for something that will last a while/can take a bit of a beating.

Also, I would be a lot happier if it were pink, just like the rest of my equipment (safety glasses, Maglite etc.) I've found that my stuff is less likely to "walk off" if it's pink (and it's also a lot harder for me to lose. :D)

So far, I've been steered toward the Boker Cruel Girl, the Buck 292 Impulse and the Benchmade Mini Griptillian. I'm not so sure the serrated edge on the Boker is necessary, and I've heard that they're a pain in the butt to sharpen.

Any thoughts or suggestions for this novice? Thank you so much!

Welcome to Bladeforums.

How about a pink Kershaw Leek? It fits your requirement nicely and well under $60.

There is also the pink Benchmade Griptillian but that is a bit above your price limit.

They're not pink but otherwise the CRKT Drifter (I have the SS version) and/or the Buck Nobleman are two of my all time favorites. Great size with fast, smooth and frankly effortless deployment. There are many other blades that you might be happy with but I find that these two are my go to EDC's along with my fully serrated Tenacious.

if you dont mind to carry a fixed blade go with the ESEE Izula. Check it out you can carry it as a necker so you will NEVER loose it :) and it can be found with handles under 60 bucks. but it might be just a little over the wished size but just look it up. You can buy a pink custom sheath as well.

Greetings

My wife edc's both the mini and the boker and likes both. I would also suggest the kabar Dozier in pink. Those can be found for less than $30 and.are good quality knives.

Thanks, guys! I have used a Kershaw Chive before and found them nice but found that it was way too small for my liking. I had no idea that they made a bigger one (and I adore the rainbow finish... but it's so pretty that I'd be afraid to use it!) Apparently the Benchmade can be had new for around my budget ($60) online, whereas the pink Leek is $40 on Amazon (the rainbow finish is an extra $10.) Would it be worth saving the extra $20 and going with the Leek, or splurging on the Benchmade (basically, which knife is the better bang for my buck?) I wouldn't be such a stickler for price if I weren't a college student. :grumpy:

Sven - I'd be a little nervous to carry a fixed blade for safety and security reasons.

ThePharce - Thanks! I'm going to look into the Kabar - I like where that price is going :)

I'd take the leek, rainbow or pink.

Here's my GF's pic of the rainbow. Oh, the coating is nearly impossible to scratch too. I dropped mine accidentally in a wal-mart parking lot, dropped from a height of 3 feet and skidded another 4 feet. Had to use a magnifying glass to see some scuffing in 1 corner. That coating is TOUGH.

Those are two great choices. Kershaw has better grinding on the blade, whereas Benchmade can be a little lopsided. Kershaw has better customer service, although Benchmade isn't bad either. Benchmade has better screws. Both are American made, well built smaller EDC's. Another thing to consider is whether you want assisted opening like on the Kershaw, or a well-executed manual like on the Grip. Also, if you happen to be left handed, then the Grip is the knife for you. Personally I think the Kershaw offers the better value, but it depends on what you want in a knife.

Hey i just had another idea coming up have you heard about the guys from up-armored?

Of course it is pricy but that coating will last long time maybe even your whole live long. What do you think about coating a spyderco bug? If i understand you correct you are actually looking for a strapcutter boxopener and letteropener and not for a heavy duty survival knife or even a fighter, are you?

greetings

Another vote for the Pink Delica - full flat grind, razor-sharp VG-10 steel and excellent slicer.

I've got to +1 the Spyderco Pink Delica above. VG10 is a superior edge holding steel and easy to sharpen compared to my Kershaw. The Kershaw is a nice knife but I've put it aside since getting my Spyderco. The Delica is a sweet one hand opener too!

Ive got to say the delica is an amazing knife, the other recommendation i have is the spyderco dragonfly tatoo, a litle smaller but much prettier and it ill fit in any pocket you have, even my fiancee super small skirt pockets can fit this knife.

Also its non conventional but a pink izula would work wonders for back stage tasks ETC its a tiny fixed blade knife that many people on this forum adore and since it thicker and doesntfold you can pry things like paint can lids without worrying about breaking it plus it is still quite small. You can wrap the skeleton handle with any color chord you like to personalize it. Also 1095 is super easy to sharpen and very durable plus the warranty with the company is that if you ever break it they replac eit fee no questions asked.

hope you find the right knife

Spyderco Native also comes in pink. The blade is slightly over 3" though @ 3 1/16.

I second the pink kershaw leek..I got my girlfriend a pink chive with the damascus style blade and she really liked it.
