I have an earlier Al Pendray wootz and stag integral and I have a problem. After a while, the ground away white portions of the stag turned purplish pink like maybe the potassium permanganate had reacted badly. has anyone ever had this happen and if so, what dod you do?

I've seen this before, don't know what folks do to counteract it, I did re-haft a knife for a guy where a lot of his stag had turned pinkish.

Interested to learn what may be the cause of this.

Potassium permanganate generally turns stag brown, and it doesn't color deep.
Have you tried sanding and polishing?

Not yet. It has ben like this for a while, but I have been afraid to do anything. I dye my own stag with Fiebings. I have only seen one situation similar to this. A few years ago, one smaller stag roll just wanted to look kind of dark purplish no matter how I tried to dye it, sand it and dye it again.
