Can anyone tell me if there is any problem in removing the clip from a pioneer II?Do you need to replace it with any kind of spacer under the screw to maintain tension, or is there enough room for adjustment? Also, will the knife, without clip, still fit the factory belt sheath? Thanks for the help!

You don't need a spacer/washer to my knowledge. I moved my clip for lefty tip up carry for my old style ball detent Pioneer: impossible to make it tip down because of the lever and mechanism was in the way

.

The two sheaths I have looks like they were made without clip being there at all. In my sheaths, no clip is fine - plenty of tension and sheath grips teh thumbstud and top of blade anyway

The clip is pressed into that hole, once you get the screw and clip off - slide something under it and pop it off (butter knife is ok).

Right you are Maddog! It worked fine, and now I have the perfect knife (IMHO).The sheath does look as if it was designed for the knife without clip. Thanks much for the advice.

AlaChoctaw,

You are welcome

. The REKAT products are among my TOP favorites. Since mine was modified for lefty tip up carry- I can use my clip: it snaps on top of the sheath very nicely (had to bevel edge so it would slide, or else the clip got hung up).

PERFECT knife?! No such creature! LOL....the Carnvour is SWEET, if you are looking for a larger knife. The largest one is the new SIFU - LARGE, BIG, BAD, NASTY: I ordered one for FUN

Have a Carnivour and like it.I'll carry it more when I get a sheath similar to the one for the Pioneer.Know where to get one?I really don't like pocket clips very much most of the time. The sifu sounds like a real possibility, too.Do you know where I can find a picture online? I've seen one, but can't remember what it's like. I have four REKATs and am a fan also.

Found the sifu picture here on the Forum.Impressive! My knife budget has taken some recent hits from other purchases, but I may look into one before too long.

there was an earlier post on this forum that had the address and phone number of the guy that makes those REKAT sheaths. Someone suggested calling him to get one for the Carnivour.

AlaChoctaw,

I have no idea who makes the sheaths for REKAT(?). I have gotten nice Kydex and concealex sheaths from a guy name Mike Sastre from Ohio, who hangs in the Spyderco forum - if you want his number send me an e-mail. Mike does great work. He made the Blue Native sheaths and I special ordered a couple of LEFTY BN sheaths from him, too.
He started off making the sheaths for whitewater sports and has certain ones in stock all the time. I can send some pics of his work if you want it.

REKAT rocks: I have you beat - I have 5 of their products....LOL. 4 styles, 2 are the same model, but different blade style

Maddog, did you have to send your knives to him in order for him to make the sheaths? I have checked with Chiro75 and he so far just makes sheaths for straight knives, though he expressed interest in trying a folder if I would send him the knife.Another member is corresponding with the folks who make them for REKAT for the Pioneer, and something may develop there. There seems to be at least some demand for a sheath for the Carnivour, as popular as it is now.Hopefully we will find a source.I would love one identical to the REKAT sheath for the Pioneer: secure, and quick to draw from, not to mention compact and subtle.

here is the thread:http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000148.html

Let me know if you contact the guy. I would like one as well.

AlaChoctaw,

Mike Sastre (River City Sheaths) generally has his own knives from which he uses as forms to mold his kydex, or concealex over. I haven't asked him about any of the REKAT products, but he has made thousands of folder sheaths so I know that he can custom make one up without a problem. Mike offers different tensions for his sheaths - you have to see some of his work to appreciate his skill level/quality. You would most likely have to send in your knife for any kind of custom work. His e-mail is VideoSAS@aol.com

Thanks for the leads, guys.I want to avoid sending my knife off, if I can avoid it. I sent Mike an Email and am waiting for a reply. From everything I can learn, he may be our best hope, unless Skunkworks will make a small batch like the factory ones, which may be a possibility. I'm going to stay with this, and I'll keep you posted on this site.

Good decision, AlaChoctaw! Mike Sastre has made some of the nicest Kydex/Concealex sheaths I have ever seen. He is a little low key (until you get to know him), but his products speak for themselves. Mike is a lot of fun to chat with, too

The only bad thing I can see is that you may just have MORE sheaths made by him

Maddog, the GOOD news is, that I have a couple more I need to have made! From what I have been told, Mike must be The Man, when it comes to sheaths.I look forward to doing business with him.

Heard from Mike Sastre this morning and have an order on its way to him for a concealex model similar to the factory REKAT.Everybody seems to agree that he does the best work around, so I will probably try to get him to make several more before I'm through. As some of you will remember, I'm sort of anti-pocket clip in most cases, but this sort of abbreviated sheath is right up my alley!

AlaChoctaw,

Way cool, Mike makes WICKED nice sheaths. Post a review, take a picture of it, and let us know how you like it.

Any word on how the Carnivour sheath turned out?

Dennis, it couldn't be better! It is identical to the sheath sold by REKAT for the Pioneer,if you are familiar with it.Contact Mike Sastre at VideoSAS@aol.com and he will fix you up.I think I paid $25 delivered, and it is a real bargainl. You'll enjoy doing business with Mike.I have another project or two for him when I have time and money for them.

Shootist, and AlaChoctaw,

Mike Sastre is working on a LEFTY Carnivour sheath for me - front break w/ pivot up. He can do pivot down, too if you want to come out in reverse grip
smile.gif
. Chances are he will be making a LH SIFU sheath for me, too.

It should arrive soon - you reading this Mike?...lol

Wonderful functional sheaths.
