Pioneer II question.

I'm considering a REKAT Pioneer II as a replacement for my Spyderco Police model. I know the Pioneer is going to be stronger but what I'd like to know is how thick the knife is. The Spyderco Police is very slim and I don't even know its there until I need it. I wouldn't want a folder that is too thick and cumbersome.

Also, how is the fit and finish? I've heard some comments that the Pioneer II is a little rough.

Thanks in advance.

Well, in my mind these are two very different sorts of animals. The Pioneer is quite a bit thicker, both in handle and blade. Also, the blade is going to be a bit shorter than the Police, with less of a point. Now, the Rekat is going to be a better all around work knife, but it is not as quick, slim and pointy as a Police. I like mine, but think of it as hard use tool, the Police is a more specialized defensive piece(IMO).
I have also heard that the action can be gritty, but mine is pretty smooth. The rest of the knife is very well done.

the pioneer II is quite abit fatter than the police model. It is also shorter. The fit and finish on my pioneer II is considerably better than my pioneer I. These are excellent hard use knives. They can take alot of abuse. They are entirely different from the police model. I think that, while still a different animal, a Carnivour would be a better replacement if you are used to the police. I don't want to say that you wont be satisfied with the pioneer II, they are as tough as they come, just alot different from the police model you are used to. You might also look at the Benchmade Axis lock. It is about the same size as the police and also has a great lock.

The Pioneer II is a good 1/2" thick and you know it's there. It's a stubby thing and very stout.Mine tends to get a little tangled in my pocket and I adjust it frequently.I wear loose fitting work trousers with Docker style pockets. It rides a little more secure in Levi's.The fit and finish aren't too bad.The II's have better fit n finish than the I's.All Rekats seem to a little on the rough side in the action area. It's something I deal with because I like the way the knife feels, handles, and cuts.If you are able to handle a few pick one that suits you because not all knives are created equal.Good luck.
