Pipes. Who here totes (and enjoys) them while in the woods?

Howdy all,

Have rekindled my interest in pipes lately. But... the only time I'm smoking one is outside. And, where is better than on a nice hike or camping trip? I recently bought two inexpensive briar pipes to go with the two I already have, and a fresh supply of pipe tobacco, a blend called "Eclipse" from Oakbrook tobacco. I also have a small amount of "Frank's blend" from God knows where.... a heartier blend than the Eclipse. I want to find a nice Missouri Meerschaum pipe too... just to have one. I hear they are a nice smoking pipe.

Let's see some pics of what pipes and pipe related paraphernalia you have. Maybe some while out on the trail or campsite.

There was quite an interesting and long thread about this a year or two ago. Very active thread. Might search for it. I learned a ton. I'm curious for an update and new info. The last thread got me hooked on Black Cavinash.

I've smoked a pipe for about 50 years now, and always have one or two around. I'm partial to Peterson's 300 series system pipes. I load it with a light burley I get online from J.R.'s tobacco in North Carolina.

My tobacco pouch is a handy spot to stash a spare mini Bic.

I smoked a pipe for a while and I did enjoy it. I finally settled on Half and Half as my favorite blend. Yes I am a cheap date. Anyway I decided that I just had to give it up cuz it's bad for me and all. I got rid of all my pipes and just called it quits. I still miss it. At one point a forum member offered to send me a pipe or two that he was no longer smoking. I turned him down but sometimes wish I had not. There is just something satisfying about a nice smoke and it did help me to gather my thoughts. I keep an eye out for used pipes when ever the wife and I hit the antique stores. It's funny when I wasn't looking for them I saw them often. The last couple of years I have been looking and I have not seen one.

OMG, thankfully you're not talking about pan flutes, which is the image the title projected in my head.

Found this little pipe today at an antique store made out of antler. Thought it was cool, as well as reasonably priced. Really liking it, although I haven't smoked it yet. Just got home with it.

have fun, good luck

No reason to change what you said, I wasn't disagreeing with you. No reason to get smart about it either. On the way home from the purchase, I was telling my wife that I thought antler was calcium, that I wondered if it wouldn't smell. You and a few others have said it would smell of burnt hair. I just did the honey trick, and smoked half a bowl, and it worked very nicely. No strange odors, or bad tastes. I didn't let it get hot, and it worked fine.

Been smokin a pipe for a long time, and enjoy it. I've never had or cared to have a fancy pipe because I'm so hard on them. I stick em in my pocket, then lean on somthing and,, "snap"! Been careful with my latest:o As far as blend, I smoked Borkum Riff Ultra Lite for a long time, but they seem to have quit making it; can't find it anymore.

Sadly pipe smoking seems to be dying around these parts. I used to and still do enjoy a waft of pipe tobacco from a passing pipe. There used to be something civil and refined about pipes and their smokers, in my youth. I miss that.

I always give myself grief for smoking, but damn I enjoy it.

Always take a pinch and scatter it for the spirits.
