Pipes. Who here totes (and enjoys) them while in the woods?

My favorite is my Castello....it's a 65 or 66, can't recall. Anyhow, thanks to this thread I started poking around online and see that it is selling for about 3x what I paid for it...interesting..

Howdy all,

Have rekindled my interest in pipes lately. But... the only time I'm smoking one is outside. And, where is better than on a nice hike or camping trip? I recently bought two inexpensive briar pipes to go with the two I already have, and a fresh supply of pipe tobacco, a blend called "Eclipse" from Oakbrook tobacco. I also have a small amount of "Frank's blend" from God knows where.... a heartier blend than the Eclipse. I want to find a nice Missouri Meerschaum pipe too... just to have one. I hear they are a nice smoking pipe.

Let's see some pics of what pipes and pipe related paraphernalia you have. Maybe some while out on the trail or campsite.

I love Oakbrook Tobacco! Was there several weeks ago and picked up a few cigars. I have about a pound of their eclipse and it accompanied to Kenya as well as a few other tobaccos on several expeditions. I have a good number of pipes but they are "save for a few" still packed away from the move. Now that my new home office has been finished I will display and smoke them. Are you from Oakbrook?

I'm relieved this thread has made it to page 3 without any crack pipes or bongs. :D

/not really me. :D

Just picked up a nifty mini-churchwarden from pipeshoppe.com. I'll post up some pics when it gets here. Next on the list is a Missouri Meerschaum.

the whole gang here at the usframe crew enjoys a pipe. As to what was posted about only smoking out doors, we are the same. Smoke does a lot of damage to furnishings and artwork, not to mention keeping the smoke in a confined space. All I can find in our image folders is cigar pics, well, time to get some pics of the pipes together. We do have a video where I fool with handcrafting a pipestem, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vojlbc-qGa0
Yep, there are times when those moments of mediatation and taking in the natural wonder of the world sure do seem enhanced by a good smoking pipe.

I really like the idea of a pipe after a day on the trail or in the evening around a fire. I tried one and i couldn't get the ash-tray taste out of my mouth for days and multiple tooth/tongue brushing attempts wouldn't clear it out either..... I really wanted to like it.....

Sounds like you are puffing too hard and overheating the tobaccy. This is very common when starting out. People think that pipes need to be "puffed" like a chimney, but the actual technique is to take small "sips" from your pipe. Do not draw on it like you would a cigar. Slow & gentle, which is why pipsters find it so relaxing.

Back in the day I would make pipes out of all kinds of stuff.... cans, apples, tin foil. Those were the days. :)

I hear ya. Nothing like a pipe made out of a bud light can. Ya those were the days. Hey i live in Seattle. Maybe those days are coming back!

Some nice looking pipes, folks. I don't smoke mine much because of the health effects, but I do like it when I go camping, or when I have to drive in the car for several hours. My friends and I used to buy the berry flavors and specialty blends from the local tobacco shop, but I always end up going back to Captain Black, "gold" flavour. It has a nice mild taste and smell.

I don't have a pic of my old Dr. Grabow, but this is a Peterson, of Dublin, that my Mother got for my Father when she visited Ireland. He used to smoke Half & Half. I happened to use it as a prop one day when I snapped a few pics of my Zippos, and of course the Buck Alpha Dorado. The open Zippo is made for pipes.
